Destiny (Old Testament)
Genesis 12 : 1 - Now Jehovah said to Abram, Get you out of your country, and from your kindred, and from your father’s house, to the land that I will show you: and I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great; and be you a blessing:
24 : 27 - And he said, Blessed be Jehovah, the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken his lovingkindness and his truth toward my master. As for me, Jehovah has
led me in the way to the house of my master's brethren.
Exodus 2 : 1 - And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi. And the woman conceived, and bore a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months. And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch; and she put the child therein, and laid it in the flags by the river's brink. And his sister stood afar off, to know what would be done to him. And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river-side; and she saw the ark among the flags, and sent her handmaid to fetch it. And she opened it, and saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews' children. Then said his sister to Pharaoh's daughter, Shall I go and call you a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you? And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Go. And the maiden went and called the child's mother. And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give you your wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it. And the child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses, and said, Because I drew him out of the water.
Exodus 12 : 29 - And it came to pass at midnight, that Jehovah smote all the first-born in the land of Egypt, from the first-born of Pharaoh that sat on his throne to the first-born of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the first-born of cattle. And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt; for there was not a house where there was not one dead. And he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, Rise up, get you forth from among my people, both you and the children of Israel; and go, serve Jehovah, as you have said. Take both your flocks and your herds, as you have said, and be gone; and bless me also. And the Egyptians were urgent upon the people, to send them out of the land in haste; for they said, We are all dead men. And the people took their dough before it was leavened, their kneading-troughs being bound up in their clothes upon their shoulders. And the children of Israel did according to the word of Moses; and they asked of the Egyptians jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: and Jehovah gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they let them have what they asked. And they despoiled the Egyptians. And the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot that were men, besides children. And a mixed multitude went up also with them; and flocks, and herds, even very much cattle. And they baked unleavened cakes of the dough which they brought forth out of Egypt; for it was not leavened, because they were thrust out of Egypt, and could not tarry, neither had they prepared for themselves any victuals. Now the time that the children of Israel dwelt in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years. And it came to pass at the end of four hundred and thirty years, even the selfsame day it came to pass, that all the hosts of Jehovah went out from the land of Egypt. It is a night to be much observed to Jehovah for bringing them out from the land of Egypt: this is that night of Jehovah, to be much observed of all the children of Israel throughout their generations.
Exodus 15 : 12 - You stretched out your right hand, The earth swallowed them. You in your lovingkindness have led the people that you have redeemed: You have guided them in your strength to your holy habitation. The peoples have heard, they tremble: Pangs have taken hold on the inhabitants of Philistia. Then were the chiefs of Edom dismayed; The mighty men of Moab, trembling takes hold upon them: All the inhabitants of Canaan are melted away. Terror and dread falls upon them; By the greatness of your arm they are as still as a stone; Till your people pass over, O Jehovah, Till the people pass over that you have purchased. You will bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of your inheritance, The place, O Jehovah, which you have made for you to dwell in, The sanctuary, O Lord, which your hands have established. Jehovah shall reign for ever and ever. For the horses of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and Jehovah brought back the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Israel walked on dry land in the midst of the sea.
Numbers 33 : 1 - These are the journeys of the children of Israel, which went forth out of the land of Egypt with their armies under the hand of Moses and Aaron. And Moses wrote their goings out according to their journeys by the commandment of the LORD: and these are their journeys according to their goings out. And they departed from Rameses in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the first month; on the morrow after the passover the children of Israel went out with an high hand in the sight of all the Egyptians. For the Egyptians buried all their firstborn, which the LORD had smitten among them: upon their gods also the LORD executed judgments. And the children of Israel removed from Rameses, and pitched in Succoth. And they departed from Succoth, and pitched in Etham, which is in the edge of the wilderness. And they removed from Etham, and turned again unto Pihahiroth, which is before Baalzephon: and they pitched before Migdol. And they departed from before Pihahiroth, and passed through the midst of the sea into the wilderness, and went three days’ journey in the wilderness of Etham, and pitched in Marah. And they removed from Marah, and came unto Elim: and in Elim were twelve fountains of water, and threescore and ten palm trees; and they pitched there. ( 10 ) And they removed from Elim, and encamped by the Red sea. And they removed from the Red sea, and encamped in the wilderness of Sin. And they took their journey out of the wilderness of Sin, and encamped in Dophkah. And they departed from Dophkah, and encamped in Alush. And they removed from Alush, and encamped at Rephidim, where was no water for the people to drink. And they departed from Rephidim, and pitched in the wilderness of Sinai. And they removed from the desert of Sinai, and pitched at Kibrothhattaavah. And they departed from Kibrothhattaavah, and encamped at Hazeroth. And they departed from Hazeroth, and pitched in Rithmah. And they departed from Rithmah, and pitched at Rimmonparez. ( 20 ) And they departed from Rimmonparez, and pitched in Libnah. And they removed from Libnah, and pitched at Rissah. And they journeyed from Rissah, and pitched in Kehelathah. And they went from Kehelathah, and pitched in mount Shapher. And they removed from mount Shapher, and encamped in Haradah. And they removed from Haradah, and pitched in Makheloth. And they removed from Makheloth, and encamped at Tahath. And they departed from Tahath, and pitched at Tarah. And they removed from Tarah, and pitched in Mithcah. And they went from Mithcah, and pitched in Hashmonah. ( 30 ) And they departed from Hashmonah, and encamped at Moseroth. And they departed from Moseroth, and pitched in Benejaakan. And they removed from Benejaakan, and encamped at Horhagidgad. And they went from Horhagidgad, and pitched in Jotbathah. And they removed from Jotbathah, and encamped at Ebronah. And they departed from Ebronah, and encamped at Eziongaber. And they removed from Eziongaber, and pitched in the wilderness of Zin, which is Kadesh. And they removed from Kadesh, and pitched in mount Hor, in the edge of the land of Edom. And Aaron the priest went up into mount Hor at the commandment of the LORD, and died there, in the fortieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the first day of the fifth month. And Aaron was an hundred and twenty and three years old when he died in mount Hor.
1 Samuel 9 : 1 - Now there was a man of Benjamin, whose name was Kish, the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Becorath, the son of Aphiah, the son of a Benjamite, a mighty man of valor. And he had a son, whose name was Saul, a young man and a goodly: and there was not among the children of Israel a goodlier person than he: from his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the people. And the asses of Kish, Saul’s father, were lost. And Kish said to Saul his son, Take now one of the servants with you, and arise, go seek the asses. And he passed through the hill-country of Ephraim, and passed through the land of Shalishah, but they found them not: then they passed through the land of Shaalim, and there they were not: and he passed through the land of the Benjamites, but they found them not. When they were come to the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant that was with him, Come, and let us return, lest my father leave off caring for the asses, and be anxious for us. And he said to him, Behold now, there is in this city a man of God, and he is a man that is held in honor; all that he says comes surely to pass: now let us go thither; peradventure he can tell us concerning our journey whereon we go. Then said Saul to his servant, But, behold, if we go, what shall we bring the man? for the bread is spent in our vessels, and there is not a present to bring to the man of God: what have we? And the servant answered Saul again, and said, Behold, I have in my hand the fourth part of a shekel of silver: that will I give to the man of God, to tell us our way. (Beforetime in Israel, when a man went to inquire of God, thus he said, Come, and let us go to the seer; for he that is now called a Prophet was beforetime called a Seer.) Then said Saul to his servant, Well said; come, let us go. So they went to the city where the man of God was. As they went up the ascent to the city, they found young maidens going out to draw water, and said to them, Is the seer here? And they answered them, and said, He is; behold, he is before you: make haste now, for he is come to-day into the city; for the people have a sacrifice to-day in the high place: as soon as you are come into the city, you shall straightway find him, before he goes up to the high place to eat; for the people will not eat until he come, because he does bless the sacrifice; and afterwards they eat that are bidden. Now therefore get you up; for at this time you shall find him. And they went up to the city; and as they came within the city, behold, Samuel came out toward them, to go up to the high place. Now Jehovah had revealed to Samuel a day before Saul came, saying, To-morrow about this time I will send you a man out of the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him to be prince over my people Israel; and he shall save my people out of the hand of the Philistines: for I have looked upon my people, because their cry is come to me. (17) And when Samuel saw Saul, Jehovah said to him, Behold, the man of whom I spoke to you! this same shall have authority over my people.
Esther 4 : 10 - ( 9 Narrative continued from topic 'Enemy Attack' ). Then Esther spoke to Hathach, and gave him a message to Mordecai saying: All the king’s servants, and the people of the king’s provinces, do know, that whoever, whether man or woman, shall come to the king into the inner court, who is not called, there is one law for him, that he be put to death, except those to whom the king shall hold out the golden sceptre, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in to the king these thirty days. And they told to Mordecai Esther’s words. Then Mordecai bade them return answer unto Esther, Think not with yourself that you shall escape in the king’s house, more than all the Jews. For if you altogether hold your peace at this time, then will relief and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish :( 14 ) and who knows whether you are not come to the kingdom for such a time as this? Then Esther bade them return answer to Mordecai, Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast you for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast in like manner; and so will I go in to the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish. So Mordecai went his way, and did according to all that Esther had commanded him.( 9 Narrative continued under topic 'Fight for Right' ).
Job 23 : 1 - Then Job answered and said, Even to-day is my complaint rebellious: My stroke is heavier than my groaning. Oh that I knew where I might find him! That I might come even to his seat! I would set my cause in order before him, And fill my mouth with arguments. I would know the words which he would answer me, And understand what he would say to me. Would he contend with me in the greatness of his power? Nay; but he would give heed to me. There the upright might reason with him; So should I be delivered for ever from my judge. Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; And backward, but I cannot perceive him; On the left hand, when he does work, but I cannot behold him; He hides himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him. But he knows the way that I take; When he has tried me, I shall come forth as gold ( 10 ). My foot has held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined. Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food. But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desires, even that he does. For he performs the thing that is appointed for me: and many such things are with him. Therefore am I troubled at his presence: when I consider, I am afraid of him. For God makes my heart soft, and the Almighty troubles me: Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither has he covered the darkness from my face.
Psalm 32 : 8 - I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go: I will counsel you with my eye upon you. Be you not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding; Whose trappings must be bit and bridle to hold them in, Else they will not come near to you. Many sorrows shall be to the wicked; But he that trusts in Jehovah, lovingkindness shall compass him about. Be glad in Jehovah, and rejoice, you righteous; And shout for joy, all you that are upright in heart.
Psalm 37 : 37 - Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright; For there is a happy end to the man of peace. As for transgressors, they shall be destroyed together; The end of the wicked shall be cut off. But the salvation of the righteous is of Jehovah; He is their stronghold in the time of trouble. And Jehovah helps them, and rescues them; He rescues them from the wicked, and saves them, Because they have taken refuge in him.
Proverbs 11 : 14 - Where no wise guidance is, the people fall; But in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.
Jeremiah 10 : 23 - O Jehovah, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walks to direct his steps. O Jehovah, correct me, but in measure: not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing. ( 25 End ) Pour out thy wrath upon the nations that know you not, and upon the families that call not on your name: for they have devoured Jacob, yes, they have devoured him and consumed him, and have laid waste his habitation.
Jeremiah 29 : 11 - For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Jehovah, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope in your latter end. And you shall call upon me, and you shall go and pray to me, and I will hearken to you. And you shall seek me, and find me, when you shall search for me with all your heart. And I will be found of you, says Jehovah, and I will turn again your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, says Jehovah; and I will bring you again to the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.
Predestination, Foreordination (New Testament)
Romans 8 : 29 - For whom he foreknew, he also foreordained to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren: and whom he foreordained, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
Ephesians 1 : 5 .... he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blemish before him in love: having foreordained us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to himself
Predestination, Foreordination (Old Testament)
Proverbs 3 : 5 - Trust in Jehovah with all your heart, And lean not upon your own understanding: In all your ways acknowledge him, And he will direct your paths Be not wise in your own eyes; Fear Jehovah, and depart from evil: It will be health to your navel, And marrow to your bones.
Guidance, Advice (New Testament)
Matthew 2 : 12 - And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way. Now when they were departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt
Matthew 2 : 19 - But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying, Arise and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead that sought the young child's life. And he arose and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel. But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither; and being warned of God in a dream, he withdrew into the parts of Galilee, and came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophets, that he should be called a Nazarene.
Luke 8 : 37 ( Mark 5 : 18 ) - Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying, Return to your own house, and shew how great things God has done to you. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done to him.
Acts 8 : 26 - They therefore, when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans. But an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south to the way that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza: the same is desert. And he arose and went: and behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasure, who had come to Jerusalem to worship; and he was returning and sitting in his chariot, and was reading the prophet Isaiah. And the Spirit said to Philip, Go near, and join yourself to this chariot.
Acts 18 : 8 - And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized. Then spoke the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not your peace: For I am with you, and no man shall set on you to hurt tyou: for I have much people in this city. And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.
Acts 22 : 10 - And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said to me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told you of all things which are appointed for you to do. And when I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Damascus. And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there, Came to me, and stood, and said to me, Brother Saul, receive your sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him. And he said, The God of our fathers has chosen you, that you should know his will, and see that Just One, and should hear the voice of his mouth. For you shall be his witness to all men of what you have seen and heard.
Acts 23 : 11 - And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as you have testified of me in Jerusalem, so must you bear witness also at Rome.
Colossians 3 : 15 - And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to the which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts unto God. And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
2 Peter 1 : 10 - Wherefore, brethren, give the more diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if you do these things, you shall never stumble:
Guidance, Advice (Old Testament)
9 : 15 - And on the day that the tabernacle was reared up the cloud covered the tabernacle, namely, the tent of the testimony: and at even there was upon the tabernacle as it were the appearance of fire, until the morning. So it was alway: the cloud covered it by day, and the appearance of fire by night. And when the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle, then after that the children of Israel journeyed: and in the place where the cloud abode, there the children of Israel pitched their tents. At the commandment of the LORD the children of Israel journeyed, and at the commandment of the LORD they pitched: as long as the cloud abode upon the tabernacle they rested in their tents. And when the cloud tarried long upon the tabernacle many days, then the children of Israel kept the charge of the LORD, and journeyed not. And so it was, when the cloud was a few days upon the tabernacle; according to the commandment of the LORD they abode in their tents, and according to the commandment of the LORD they journeyed. And so it was, when the cloud abode from even unto the morning, and that the cloud was taken up in the morning, then they journeyed: whether it was by day or by night that the cloud was taken up, they journeyed. Or whether it were two days, or a month, or a year, that the cloud tarried upon the tabernacle, remaining thereon, the children of Israel abode in their tents, and journeyed not: but when it was taken up, they journeyed. At the commandment of the LORD they rested in the tents, and at the commandment of the LORD they journeyed: they kept the charge of the LORD, at the commandment of the LORD by the hand of Moses.
Joshua 3 : 1 - And Joshua rose up early in the morning; and they removed from Shittim, and came to the Jordan, he and all the children of Israel; and they lodged there before they passed over. And it came to pass after three days, that the officers went through the midst of the camp; and they commanded the people, saying, When you see the ark of the covenant of Jehovah your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then you shall remove from your place, and go after it. Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near to it, that you may know the way by which you must go; for you have not passed this way heretofore. And Joshua said to the people, Sanctify yourselves; for to-morrow Jehovah will do wonders among you.
1 Samuel 14 : 36 - And Saul said, Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and take spoil among them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them. And they said, Do whatever seems good to you. Then said the priest, Let us draw near hither to God. And Saul asked counsel of God, Shall I go down after the Philistines? will you deliver them into the hand of Israel? But he answered him not that day. And Saul said, Draw nigh hither, all you chiefs of the people; and know and see wherein this sin has been this day. For, as Jehovah lives, who saves Israel, though it be in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die. But there was not a man among all the people that answered him. Then said he to all Israel, Be you on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side. And the people said to Saul, Do what seems good to you. Therefore Saul said to Jehovah, the God of Israel, Show the right. And Jonathan and Saul were taken by lot; but the people escaped. And Saul said, Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son. And Jonathan was taken. Then Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what you have done. And Jonathan told him, and said, I did certainly taste a little honey with the end of the rod that was in my hand; and, lo, I must die. And Saul said, God do so and more also; for you shall surely die, Jonathan. And the people said to Saul, Shall Jonathan die, who has wrought this great salvation in Israel? Far from it: as Jehovah lives, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he has wrought with God this day. So the people rescued Jonathan, that he died not.
2 Samuel 5 : 17 - And when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David; and David heard of it, and went down to the stronghold. Now the Philistines had come and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim. And David inquired of Jehovah, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? will you deliver them into my hand? And Jehovah said to David, Go up; for I will certainly deliver the Philistines into your hand. And David came to Baal-perazim, and David smote them there; and he said, Jehovah has broken my enemies before me, like the breach of waters. Therefore he called the name of that place Baal-perazim. And they left their images there; and David and his men took them away. And the Philistines came up yet again, and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim. And when David inquired of Jehovah, he said, You shall not go up: make a circuit behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry-trees. And it shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry-trees, that then you shall bestir yourself; for then is Jehovah gone out before you to smite the host of the Philistines. And David did so, as Jehovah commanded him, and smote the Philistines from Geba until you come to Gezer.
Psalm 5 : 8 - But as for me, in the abundance of your lovingkindness will I come into your house: In your fear will I worship toward your holy temple. Lead me, O Jehovah, in your righteousness because of my enemies; Make your way straight before my face.
Psalm 25 : 8 - Good and upright is Jehovah: Therefore will he instruct sinners in the way. The meek will he guide in justice; And the meek will he teach his way. All the paths of Jehovah are lovingkindness and truth Unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies. For your name’s sake, O Jehovah, Pardon my iniquity, for it is great. What man is he that fears Jehovah? Him shall he instruct in the way that he shall choose.
Proverbs 5 - 21 - For the ways of man are before the eyes of Jehovah; And he makes level all his paths. His own iniquities shall take the wicked, And he shall be held with the cords of his sin. He shall die for lack of instruction; And in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
Proverbs 15 : 22 - Where there is no counsel, purposes are disappointed; But in the multitude of counsellors they are established. A man has joy in the answer of his mouth; And a word in due season, how good is it!
Proverbs 20 : 17 - Bread of falsehood is sweet to a man; But afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel. Every purpose is established by counsel; And by wise guidance make you war. He that goes about as a tale-bearer reveals secrets; Therefore company not with him that opens wide his lips.
Proverbs 20 : 24 - A man's goings are of Jehovah; How then can man understand his way? A man’s goings are of Jehovah; How then can man understand his way? It is a snare to a man rashly to say, It is holy, And after vows to make inquiry.
Proverbs 25 : 11 - A word fitly spoken Is like apples of gold in network of silver. As an ear-ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, So is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear. As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, So is a faithful messenger to them that send him; For he refreshes the soul of his masters. As clouds and wind without rain, So is he that boasts himself of his gifts falsely( 14 ).
Isaiah 8 : 11 - For Jehovah spoke thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me not to walk in the way of this people, saying, Say you not, A conspiracy, concerning all whereof this people shall say, A conspiracy; neither fear you their fear, nor be in dread thereof. Jehovah of hosts, him shall you sanctify; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And many shall stumble thereon, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken. Bind you up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples. And I will wait for Jehovah, that hides his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him. Behold, I and the children whom Jehovah has given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from Jehovah of hosts, who dwells in mount Zion. And when they shall say to you, Seek to them that have familiar spirits and to the wizards, that chirp and that mutter: should not a people seek to their God? on behalf of the living should they seek to the dead? To the law and to the testimony! if they speak not according to this word, surely there is no morning for them. And they shall pass through it, sore distressed and hungry; and it shall come to pass that, when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and curse by their king and by their God, and turn their faces upward: and they shall look to the earth, and behold, distress and darkness, the gloom of anguish; and into thick darkness they shall be driven away.
30 : 21 - and your ears shall hear
a word behind you, saying, This is the way, walk in it; when you turn
to the right hand, and when you turn to the left.
Purpose (New Testament)
Matthew 16 : 20 - Then charged he the disciples that they should tell no man that he was the Christ. From that time began Jesus to show to his disciples, that he must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from you, Lord: this shall never be to you. But he turned, and said to Peter, Get behind me, Satan: you are a stumbling-block to me: for you mind not the things of God, but the things of men.
Matthew 20 : 17 ( Mark 10 :32, Luke 18 : 31 ) - And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples apart, and on the way he said to them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered to the chief priests and scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify: and the third day he shall be raised up.
Luke 2 : 40 - And the child grew, and waxed strong, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him. And his parents went every year to Jerusalem at the feast of the passover. And when he was twelve years old, they went up after the custom of the feast; and when they had fulfilled the days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and his parents knew it not; but supposing him to be in the company, they went a day's journey; and they sought for him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance: and when they found him not, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking for him. And it came to pass, after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both hearing them, and asking them questions: and all that heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. And when they saw him, they were astonished; and his mother said to him, Son, why have you thus dealt with us? behold, your father and I sought you sorrowing. And he said to them, How is it that you sought me? knew you not that I must be in my Father's house? And they understood not the saying which he spoke to them. And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth; and he was subject to them: and his mother kept all these sayings in her heart. And Jesus advanced in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
John 16 : 12 - I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he shall guide you into all the truth: for he shall not speak from himself; but what things soever he shall hear, these shall he speak: and he shall declare to you the things that are to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall take of mine, and shall declare it to you.
Acts 7 : 14 - And Joseph sent, and called to him Jacob his father, and all his kindred, threescore and fifteen souls. And Jacob went down into Egypt; and he died, himself and our fathers; and they were carried over to Shechem, and laid in the tomb that Abraham bought for a price in silver of the sons of Hamor in Shechem.
Acts 10 : 17 - Now while Peter was much perplexed in himself what the vision which he had seen might mean, behold, the men that were sent by Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simon's house, stood before the gate, and called and asked whether Simon, who was surnamed Peter, were lodging there. And while Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek you. But arise, and get down, and go with them, nothing doubting: for I have sent them.
Acts 16 : 6 - And they went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been forbidden of the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia; and when they were come over against Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia; and the Spirit of Jesus suffered them not; and passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas. And a vision appeared to Paul in the night: There was a man of Macedonia standing, beseeching him, and saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us. And when he had seen the vision, straightway we sought to go forth into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.
Luke 12 : 32 - Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell that which you have, and give alms; make for yourselves purses which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that fails not, where no thief draws near, neither moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Let your loins be girded about, and your lamps burning; and be you yourselves like to men looking for their lord, when he shall return from the marriage feast; that, when he comes and knocks, they may straightway open to him. Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he comes shall find watching: verily I say to you, that he shall gird himself, and make them sit down to meat, and shall come and serve them. And if he shall come in the second watch, and if in the third, and find them so blessed are those servants. But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what hour the thief was coming, he would have watched, and not have left his house to be broken through. Be you also ready: for in an hour that you think not the Son of man comes.
Luke 18 : 31 ( Matthew 20 : 17, Mark 10 : 32 ) - And he took to him the twelve, and said to them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all the things that are written through the prophets shall be accomplished to the Son of man. For he shall be delivered up to the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and shamefully treated, and spit upon: and they shall scourge and kill him: and the third day he shall rise again. And they understood none of these things; and this saying was hid from them, and they perceived not the things that were said.
Romans 1 : 22 - Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
Hebrews 6 : 13 - For when God made promise to Abraham, since he could swear by none greater, he swore by himself, saying, Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you. And thus, having patiently endured, he obtained the promise. For men swear by the greater: and in every dispute of theirs the oath is final for confirmation. Wherein God, being minded to show more abundantly to the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, interposed with an oath; that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have a strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us:
Hebrews 11 : 8 - 12, 17 - 19 - By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed to go out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. By faith he became a sojourner in the land of promise, as in a land not his own, dwelling in tents, with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: for he looked for the city which has the foundations, whose builder and maker is God. 17 - 19 - By faith Abraham, being tried, offered up Isaac: yes, he that had gladly received the promises was offering up his only begotten son; even he to whom it was said, In Isaac shall your seed be called: accounting that God is able to raise up, even from the dead; from whence he did also in a figure receive him back.
Purpose (Old Testament)
Genesis 2 : 6 - And the serpent said to the woman, You shall not surely die: for God does know that in the day you eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as God, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he did eat. And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig-leaves together, and made themselves aprons. And they heard the voice of Jehovah God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Jehovah God amongst the trees of the garden. And Jehovah God called to the man, and said to him, Where are you? And he said, I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. And he said, Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded you that you should not eat? And the man said, The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. ( 13 ) And Jehovah God said to the woman, What is this you have done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
Genesis 24 : 10 - And the servant took ten camels, of the camels of his master, and departed, having all goodly things of his master’s in his hand: and he arose, and went to Mesopotamia, unto the city of Nahor. And he made the camels to kneel down without the city by the well of water at the time of evening, the time that women go out to draw water. And he said, O Jehovah, the God of my master Abraham, send me, I pray you, good speed this day, and show kindness to my master Abraham. Behold, I am standing by the fountain of water; and the daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water: and let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down your pitcher, I pray you, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give your camels drink also: let the same be she that you have appointed for your servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that you have showed kindness to my master. And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel the son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder. And the damsel was very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her: and she went down to the fountain, and filled her pitcher, and came up. And the servant ran to meet her, and said, Give me to drink, I pray you, a little water from your pitcher. And she said, Drink, my lord: and she hasted, and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink. And when she had done giving him drink, she said, I will draw for your camels also, until they have done drinking. And she hasted, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again to the well to draw, and drew for all his camels. And the man looked stedfastly on her, holding his peace, to know whether Jehovah had made his journey prosperous or not. And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden ring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold, and said, Whose daughter are you? tell me, I pray you. Is there room in your father’s house for us to lodge in? And she said to him, I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, whom she bare to Nahor. She said moreover to him, We have both straw and provender enough, and room to lodge in. And the man bowed his head, and worshipped Jehovah. And he said, Blessed be Jehovah, the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken his lovingkindness and his truth toward my master: as for me, Jehovah has led me in the way to the house of my master’s brethren. And the damsel ran, and told her mother’s house according to these words....And I bowed my head, and worshipped Jehovah, and blessed Jehovah, the God of my master Abraham, who had led me in the right way to take my master's brother's daughter for his son.
Genesis 45 : 1 - Then Joseph could not refrain himself before all them that stood before him; and he cried, Cause every man to go out from me. And there stood no man with him, while Joseph made himself known to his brethren. And he wept aloud: and the Egyptians heard, and the house of Pharaoh heard. And Joseph said to his brethren, I am Joseph; does my father yet live? And his brethren could not answer him; for they were troubled at his presence. And Joseph said to his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom you sold into Egypt. And now be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that you sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life. For these two years has the famine been in the land: and there are yet five years, in which there shall be neither plowing nor harvest. And God sent me before you to preserve you a remnant in the earth, and to save you alive by a great deliverance. So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and ruler over all the land of Egypt. Haste, and go up to my father, and say to him, Thus says your son Joseph, God has made me lord of all Egypt: come down to me, tarry not; and you shall dwell in the land of Goshen, and you shall be near to me, you, and your children, andyour children's children, and your flocks, and your herds, and all that you have: and there will I nourish you; for there are yet five years of famine; lest you come to poverty, you, and your household, and all that you have. And, behold, your eyes see, and the eyes of my brother Benjamin, that it is my mouth that speaks to you. And you shall tell my father of all my glory in Egypt, and of all that you have seen: and you shall haste and bring down my father hither.
Genesis 50 : 1 - And Joseph fell upon his father’s face, and wept upon him, and kissed him. And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father: and the physicians embalmed Israel. And forty days were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of embalming: and the Egyptians wept for him three-score and ten days. And when the days of weeping for him were past, Joseph spoke to the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found favor in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying, My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have digged for me in the land of Canaan, there shall you bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray you, and bury my father, and I will come again. And Pharaoh said, Go up, and bury your father, according as he made you swear. And Joseph went up to bury his father; and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt, and all the house of Joseph, and his brethren, and his father’s house: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen. And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen: and it was a very great company. And they came to the threshing-floor of Atad, which is beyond the Jordan, and there they lamented with a very great and sore lamentation: and he made a mourning for his father seven days. And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, This is a grievous mourning to the Egyptians: wherefore the name of it was called Abel-mizraim, which is beyond the Jordan. And his sons did to him according as he commanded them: for his sons carried him into the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field, for a possession of a burying-place, of Ephron the Hittite, before Mamre. And Joseph returned into Egypt, he, and his brethren, and all that went up with him to bury his father, after he had buried his father.
1 Samuel 14 : 1 - Now it fell upon a day, that Jonathan the son of Saul said to the young man that bare his armor, Come, and let us go over to the Philistines' garrison, that is on yonder side. But he told not his father. And Saul abode in the uttermost part of Gibeah under the pomegranate-tree which is in Migron: and the people that were with him were about six hundred men; and Ahijah, the son of Ahitub, Ichabod's brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, the priest of Jehovah in Shiloh, wearing an ephod. And the people knew not that Jonathan was gone. And between the passes, by which Jonathan sought to go over to the Philistines' garrison, there was a rocky crag on the one side, and a rocky crag on the other side: and the name of the one was Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh. The one crag rose up on the north in front of Michmash, and the other on the south in front of Geba. And Jonathan said to the young man that bare his armor, Come, and let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised: it may be that Jehovah will work for us; for there is no restraint to Jehovah to save by many or by few. And his armorbearer said to him, Do all that is in your heart: turn you, behold, I am with you according to your heart. Then said Jonathan, Behold, we will pass over to the men, and we will disclose ourselves to them. If they say thus to us, Tarry until we come to you; then we will stand still in our place, and will not go up to them. But if they say thus, Come up to us; then we will go up; for Jehovah has delivered them into our hand: and this shall be the sign to us. And both of them disclosed themselves to the garrison of the Philistines: and the Philistines said, Behold, the Hebrews come forth out of the holes where they had hid themselves. And the men of the garrison answered Jonathan and his armorbearer, and said, Come up to us, and we will show you a thing. And Jonathan said to his armorbearer, Come up after me; for Jehovah had delivered them into the hand of Israel. And Jonathan climbed up on his hands and on his feet, and his armorbearer after him: and they fell before Jonathan; and his armorbearer slew them after him. And that first slaughter, which Jonathan and his armorbearer made, was about twenty men, within as it were half a furrow's length in an acre of land.( 14 )
2 Samuel 19 : 1 - And it was told Joab, Behold, the king weeps and mourns for Absalom. And the victory that day was turned into mourning to all the people; for the people heard say that day, The king grieves for his son. And the people got them by stealth that day into the city, as people that are ashamed steal away when they flee in battle. And the king covered his face, and the king cried with a loud voice, O my son Absalom, O Absalom, my son, my son! And Joab came into the house to the king, and said, You have shamed this day the faces of all your servants, who this day have saved your life, and the lives of your sons and of your daughters, and the lives of your wives, and the lives of your concubines; in that you love them that hate you, and hate them that love you. For you have declared this day, that princes and servants are nought to you: for this day I perceive, that if Absalom had lived, and all we had died this day, then it had pleased you well. Now therefore arise, go forth, and speak comfortably to your servants; for I swear by Jehovah, if you go not forth, there will not tarry a man with you this night: and that will be worse to you than all the evil that has befallen you from your youth until now. Then the king arose, and sat in the gate. And they told to all the people, saying, Behold, the king is sitting in the gate: and all the people came before the king. Now Israel had fled every man to his tent. And all the people were at strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, The king delivered us out of the hand of our enemies, and he saved us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he is fled out of the land from Absalom. And Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in battle. Now therefore why speak you not a word of bringing the king back? And king David sent to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, saying, Speak to the elders of Judah, saying, Why are you the last to bring the king back to his house? seeing the speech of all Israel is come to the king, to bring him to his house. You are my brethren, you are my bone and my flesh: wherefore then are you the last to bring back the king? And say you to Amasa, Are you not my bone and my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if you be not captain of the host before me continually in the room of Joab. And he bowed the heart of all the men of Judah, even as the heart of one man; so that they sent to the king, saying, Return you, and all your servants. So the king returned, and came to the Jordan. And Judah came to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to bring the king over the Jordan. And Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjamite, who was of Bahurim, hasted and came down with the men of Judah to meet king David. And there were a thousand men of Benjamin with him, and Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons and his twenty servants with him; and they went through the Jordan in the presence of the king.
Nehemiah 1 : 1 - The words of Nehemiah the son of Hacaliah. Now it came to pass in the month Chislev, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace, that Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men out of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, that were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem. And they said to me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire. And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days; and I fasted and prayed before the God of heaven, and said, I beseech you,O Lord, I beseech you, let now your ear be attentive to the prayer of your servant, and to the prayer of your servants, who delight to fear your name; and prosper, I pray you, your servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. Now I was cupbearer to the king. ( 11 All )

Proverbs 20 : 5 - Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; But a man of understanding will draw it out. Most men will proclaim every one his own kindness; But a faithful man who can find? A righteous man that walks in his integrity, Blessed are his children after him.
Isaiah 42 : 16 - And I will bring the blind by a way that they know not; in paths that they know not will I lead them; I will make darkness light before them, and crooked places straight. These things will I do, and I will not forsake them.
Daniel 9 : 1 - In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, who was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans, in the first year of his reign I, Daniel, understood by the books the number of the years whereof the word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah the prophet, for the accomplishing of the desolations of Jerusalem, even seventy years. And I set my face to the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting and sackcloth and ashes.
