GigaGal - Heart
(Old Testament)

1 Samuel 1 : 1 - Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim-zophim, of the hill-country of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite: and he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children. And this man went up out of his city from year to year to worship and to sacrifice to Jehovah of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests to Jehovah, were there. And when the day came that Elkanah sacrificed, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions: but to Hannah he gave a double portion; for he loved Hannah, but Jehovah had shut up her womb. And her rival provoked her sore, to make her fret, because Jehovah had shut up her womb. And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of Jehovah, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat. And Elkanah her husband said to her, Hannah, why weep you? and why eat you not? and why is your heart grieved? am not I better to you than ten sons?

1 Samuel 16 : 7 - Jehovah sees not as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but Jehovah looks on the heart.

1 Samuel 25 : 18 - Then Abigail made haste, and took two hundred loaves, and two bottles of wine, and five sheep ready dressed, and five measures of parched grain, and a hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of figs, and laid them on asses. And she said to her young men, Go on before me; behold, I come after you. But she told not her husband Nabal. And it was so, as she rode on her ass, and came down by the covert of the mountain, that, behold, David and his men came down toward her; and she met them. Now David had said, Surely in vain have I kept all that this fellow has in the wilderness, so that nothing was missed of all that pertained to him: and he has returned me evil for good. God do so to the enemies of David, and more also, if I leave of all that pertain to him by the morning light so much as one man-child. And when Abigail saw David, she hasted, and alighted from her ass, and fell before David on her face, and bowed herself to the ground. And she fell at his feet, and said, Upon me, my lord, upon me be the iniquity; and let your handmaid, I pray you, speak in your ears, and hear you the words of your handmaid. Let not my lord, I pray you, regard this worthless fellow, even Nabal; for as his name is, so is he; Nabal is his name, and folly is with him: but I your handmaid saw not the young men of my lord, whom you did send. Now therefore, my lord, as Jehovah lives, and as your soul lives, seeing Jehovah has withheld you from bloodguiltiness, and from avenging yourself with your own hand, now therefore let your enemies, and them that seek evil to my lord, be as Nabal. And now this present which your servant has brought to my lord, let it be given to the young men that follow my lord( 27 ).

Jeremiah 17 : 9 - The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly corrupt: who can know it? I, Jehovah, search the mind, I try the heart, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings. As the partridge that sitteth on eggs which she hath not laid, so is he that getteth riches, and not by right; in the midst of his days they shall leave him, and at his end he shall be a fool ( 11 ).

1 Chronicles 29 : 17 - I know also, my God, that you try the heart, and have pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things: and now have I seen with joy your people, that are present here, offer willingly to you.

Psalm 7 : 9 - For the righteous God tries the minds and hearts. My shield is with God, Who saves the upright in heart.

Psalm 16 : 7 - I will bless Jehovah, who has given me counsel; Yes, my heart instructs me in the night seasons.

Psalm 20 : 1 - Jehovah answer you in the day of trouble.... Grant thee thy heart's desire, And fulfil all thy counsel.

Psalm 37 : 4 - Delight thyself also in Jehovah; And he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way unto Jehovah; Trust also in him, and he will bring it to pass.

Psalm 95 : 7 - For he is our God, And we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To-day, oh that you would hear his voice! Harden not your heart, as at Meribah, As in the day of Massah in the wilderness; When your fathers tempted me, Proved me, and saw my work. Forty years long was I grieved with that generation, And said, It is a people that do err in their heart, And they have not known my ways: Wherefore I swore in my wrath, That they should not enter into my rest.

Psalm 119 . 30 - I will run the way of your commandments, When you enlarge my heart. .... Yes, I shall observe it with my whole heart.

Proverbs 4 : 23 - Keep your heart with all diligence; For out of it are the issues of life.

Proverbs 15 : 13 - A glad heart makes a cheerful countenance; But by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken. The heart of him that has understanding seeks knowledge.

Proverbs 17 : 3 - The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold; But Jehovah tries the hearts.

Proverbs 31 : 27 - She looks well to the ways of her household, And eats not the bread of idleness. Her children rise up, and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her, saying: Many daughters have done worthily, But you excell them all.

Ecclesiastes 7 : 26 - And I find more bitter than death the woman whose heart is snares and nets, and whose hands are bands: whoso pleases God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her. Behold, this have I found, says the Preacher, laying one thing to another, to find out the account; which my soul still seeks, but I have not found: one man among a thousand have I found; but a woman among all those have I not found. Behold, this only have I found: that God made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.( 29 End )

Luke 1 : 38 - And Mary said, Behold, the handmaid of the Lord; be it to me according to your word. And the angel departed from her. And Mary arose in these days and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Judah; and entered into the house of Zacharias and saluted Elisabeth. And it came to pass, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit; and she lifted up her voice with a loud cry, and said, Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, when the voice of your salutation came into my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. And blessed is she that believed; for there shall be a fulfilment of the things which have been spoken to her from the Lord.

Acts 16 . 11 - Setting sail therefore from Troas, we made a straight course to Samothrace, and the day following to Neapolis; and from thence to Philippi, which is a city of Macedonia, the first of the district, a Roman colony: and we were in this city tarrying certain days. And on the sabbath day we went forth without the gate by a river side, where we supposed there was a place of prayer; and we sat down, and spoke to the women that were come together. And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple of the city of Thyatira, one that worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened to give heed to the things which were spoken by Paul.

Hebrews 4 : 7 - To-day if ye shall hear his voice, Harden not your hearts.

1 John 3 : 20 - because if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have boldness toward God; and whatsoever we ask we receive of him, because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing in his sight.
