The King Comes ( New Testament )
Matthew 1 : 18 - Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. But when he thought on these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, Joseph, son of David, fear not to take to yourself Mary your wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 1 : 22 - Now all this is come to pass, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, And they shall call his name Immanuel; which is, being interpreted, God with us. And Joseph arose from his sleep, and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took to him his wife; and knew her not till she had brought forth a son: and he called his name JESUS.
Matthew 2 : 1 - Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, Wise-men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we saw his star in the east, and are come to worship him. And when Herod the king heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. And gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ should be born. And they said to him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written through the prophet, And you Bethlehem, land of Judah, are in no wise least among the princes of Judah: for out of you shall come forth a governor, who shall be shepherd of my people Israel.
Matthew 2 : 7 - Then Herod privily called the Wise-men, and learned of them exactly what time the star appeared. And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search out exactly concerning the young child; and when you have found him, bring me word, that I also may come and worship him. And they, having heard the king, went their way; and lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
Matthew 2 : 12 - And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way. Now when they were departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be there until I tell you: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. And he arose and took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt;
Luke 1 : 26 - Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. And he came in to her, and said, Hail, you that are highly favored, the Lord is with you. But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this might be. And the angel said to her, Fear not, Mary: for you have found favor with God. And behold, you shall conceive in your womb, and bring forth a son, and shall call his name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Most High: and the Lord God shall give to him the throne of his father David: and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. And Mary said to the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said to her, The Holy Spirit shall come upon you, and the power of the Most High shall overshadow you: wherefore also the holy thing which is begotten shall be called the Son of God. And behold, Elisabeth your kinswoman, she also has conceived a son in her old age; and this is the sixth month with her that was called barren.
Luke 2 : 1 - Now it came to pass in those days, there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be enrolled. This was the first enrolment made when Quirinius was governor of Syria. And all went to enrol themselves, every one to his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David; to enrol himself with Mary, who was betrothed to him, being great with child.
Luke 2 : 6 - And it came to pass, while they were there, the days were fulfilled that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son; and she wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
Luke 2 : 8 - And there were shepherds in the same country abiding in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock. And an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all the people: for there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord. And this is the sign to you: You shall find a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, and lying in a manger.
Luke 2 : 13 - And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men in whom he is well pleased.
Luke 2 : 15 - And it came to pass, when the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even to Bethlehem, and see this thing that is come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us. And they came with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in the manger.
Luke 2 : 17 - And when they saw it, they made known concerning the saying which was spoken to them about this child. And all that heard it wondered at the things which were spoken to them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these sayings, pondering them in her heart.
Luke 2 : 20 - And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, even as it was spoken to them.
Luke 19 : 10 - For the Son of man came to seek and to save that which was lost.
The King Comes ( Old Testament )
Song of Songs 2 : 7 - I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem, By the roes, or by the hinds of the field, That you stir not up, nor awake my love, Until he please. The voice of my beloved! behold, he comes, Leaping upon the mountains, Skipping upon the hills. My beloved is like a roe or a young hart: Behold, he stands behind our wall; He looks in at the windows; He glances through the lattice. My beloved spoke, and said to me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away. For, lo, the winter is past; The rain is over and gone; The flowers appear on the earth; The time of the singing of birds is come, And the voice of the turtle-dove is heard in our land; The fig-tree ripens her green figs, And the vines are in blossom; They give forth their fragrance. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.(13)
Song of Songs 3 : 1 - By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loves: I sought him, but I found him not. I said, I will rise now, and go about the city; In the streets and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loves: I sought him, but I found him not. The watchmen that go about the city found me; To whom I said, Saw you him whom my soul loves? It was but a little that I passed from them, When I found him whom my soul loves: I held him, and would not let him go, Until I had brought him into my mother’s house, And into the chamber of her that conceived me. I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem, By the roes, or by the hinds of the field, That you stir not up, nor awake my love, Until he please. Who is this that comes up from the wilderness Like pillars of smoke, Perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, With all powders of the merchant? Behold, it is the litter of Solomon; Threescore mighty men are about it, Of the mighty men of Israel. They all handle the sword, and are expert in war: Every man has his sword upon his thigh, Because of fear in the night. King Solomon made himself a palanquin Of the wood of Lebanon. He made the pillars thereof of silver, The bottom thereof of gold, the seat of it of purple, The midst thereof being paved with love, From the daughters of Jerusalem. Go forth, O you daughters of Zion, and behold king Solomon, With the crown wherewith his mother has crowned him In the day of his espousals, And in the day of the gladness of his heart.(11)
His Coming Foretold ( New Testament )
Matthew 3 : 2 - And in those days comes John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, saying, Repent ; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. For this is he that was spoken of through Isaiah the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ready the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
Matthew 4 : 12 - Now when he heard that John was delivered up, he withdrew into Galilee; and leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the borders of Zebulun and Naphtali: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying, The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, Toward the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles, the people that sat in darkness saw a great light, and to them that sat in the region and shadow of death, to them did light spring up. From that time began Jesus to preach, and to say, Repent you; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Matthew 11 : 7 - And as these went their way, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John, What went you out into the wilderness to behold? a reed shaken with the wind? But what went you out to see? a man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they that wear soft raiment are in king's houses. But wherefore went you out? to see a prophet? Yes, I say to you, and much more than a prophet. This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before your face, Who shall prepare your way before you.
Matthew 21 : 1 ( Mark 11 : 1, Luke 20 : 29 ) - And when they drew nigh to Jerusalem, and came to Bethphage, to the mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, Go into the village that is over against you, and straightway you shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them to me. And if any one say aught to you, you shall say, The Lord has need of them; and straightway he will send them. Now this is come to pass, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying, Tell the daughter of Zion, Behold, your King comes to you, Meek, and riding on an ass, And on a colt the foal of an ass. And the disciples went, and did as Jesus appointed them, and brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their garments; and he sat thereon. And the most part of the multitude spread their garments in the way; and others cut branches from the trees, and spread them in the way. And the multitudes that went before him, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest. And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, Who is this? And the multitudes said, This is the prophet, Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee...( Luke 20 : 29 ) And some of the Pharisees from the multitude said to him, Teacher, rebuke your disciples. And he answered and said, I tell you that, if these shall hold their peace, the stones will cry out.
Mark 1 : 2 - Even as it is written in Isaiah the prophet, Behold, I send my messenger before your face, Who shall prepare your way. The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight; John came, who baptized in the wilderness and preached the baptism of repentance unto remission of sins. And there went out to him all the country of Judaea, and all they of Jerusalem; And they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.
Mark 2 : 1 ( Matt.8 : 2, Luke 5 : 18 ) - And when he entered again into Capernaum after some days, it was noised that he was in the house. And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room for them, no, not even about the door: and he spoke the word to them. And they come, bringing to him a man sick of the palsy, borne of four. And when they could not come nigh to him for the crowd, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed whereon the sick of the palsy lay. And Jesus seeing their faith said to the sick of the palsy, Son, your sins are forgiven. But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts, Why does this man thus speak? he blasphemes: who can forgive sins but one, even God? And straightway Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, said to them, Why reason you these things in your hearts? Which is easier, to say to the sick of the palsy, Yoursins are forgiven; or to say, Arise, and take up your bed, and walk? But that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins (he said to the sick of the palsy), I say to you, Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house. And he arose, and straightway took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.
Luke 1 :76 - Yes and you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High: For you shall go before the face of the Lord to make ready his ways; To give knowledge of salvation to his people In the remission of their sins, Because of the tender mercy of our God, Whereby the dayspring from on high shall visit us.
John 1 : 6 - There came a man, sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for witness, that he might bear witness of the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came that he might bear witness of the light. There was the true light, even the light which lights every man, coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world knew him not. He came to his own, and they that were his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he the right to become children of God, even to them that believe on his name:
John 1 : 19 - And this is the witness of John, when the Jews sent to him from Jerusalem priests and Levites to ask him, Who are you? And he confessed, and denied not; and he confessed, I am not the Christ. And they asked him, What then? Are you Elijah? And he said, I am not. Are you the prophet? And he answered, No. They said therefore to him, Who are you? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What say you of yourself? He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said Isaiah the prophet.
John 1 : 45 - Philip finds Nathanael, and says to him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. And Nathanael said to him, Can any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip says to him, Come and see.
John 12 : 12 - On the morrow a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took the branches of the palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried out, Hosanna: Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel. And Jesus, having found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written, Fear not, daughter of Zion: behold, your King comes, sitting on an ass's colt. These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things to him. The multitude therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb, and raised him from the dead, bare witness. For this cause also the multitude went and met him, for that they heard that he had done this sign. The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Behold how you prevail nothing: lo, the world is gone after him.
His Coming Foretold ( Old Testament )
Isaiah 40 : 3 - The voice of one that cries, Prepare in the wilderness the way of Jehovah; make level in the desert a highway for our God.
Isaiah 49 : 1 - Listen, O isles, to me; and hearken, you peoples, from far: Jehovah has called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother has he made mention of my name: and he has made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand has he hid me: and he has made me a polished shaft; in his quiver has he kept me close: and he said to me, You are my servant; Israel, in whom I will be glorified. But I said, I have labored in vain, I have spent my strength for nought and vanity; yet surely the justice due to me is with Jehovah, and my recompense with my God. And now says Jehovah that formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob again to him, and that Israel be gathered to him (for I am honorable in the eyes of Jehovah, and my God is become my strength); yes, he says, It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give you for a light to the Gentiles, that you may be my salvation to the end of the earth.
Ezekiel 44 : 1 - Then he brought me back by the way of the outer gate of the sanctuary, which looks toward the east; and it was shut. And Jehovah said to me, This gate shall be shut; it shall not be opened, neither shall any man enter in by it; for Jehovah, the God of Israel, has entered in by it; therefore it shall be shut. As for the prince, he shall sit therein as prince to eat bread before Jehovah; he shall enter by the way of the porch of the gate, and shall go out by the way of the same ( 3 )
Malachi 3 : 1 - Behold, I send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, behold, he comes, says Jehovah of hosts.
