A - What The Maker's Manual says -

Marriage (New Testament)

Matthew 22 : 24 ( Mark 12 : 18, Luke 20 : 27 ) - And there come to him Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying, Teacher, Moses wrote to us, If a man's brother die, and leave a wife behind him, and leave no child, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed to his brother. There were seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed; and the second took her, and died, leaving no seed behind him; and the third likewise: and the seven left no seed. Last of all the woman also died. In the resurrection whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife. Jesus said to them, Is it not for this cause that you err, that you know not the scriptures, nor the power of God? For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as angels in heaven.

Mark 6 :14 - And king Herod heard thereof; for his name had become known: and he said, John the Baptizer is risen from the dead, and therefore do these powers work in him. But others said, It is Elijah. And others said, It is a prophet, even as one of the prophets. But Herod, when he heard thereof, said, John, whom I beheaded, he is risen .For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife; for he had married her. For John said to Herod, It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife. And Herodias set herself against him, and desired to kill him; and she could not; for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and kept him safe. And when he heard him, he was much perplexed; and he heard him gladly. And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, and the high captains, and the chief men of Galilee; and when the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and them that sat at meat with him; and the king said to the damsel, Ask of me whatever you will, and I will give it you. And he swore to her, Whatever you shall ask of me, I will give it you to the half of my kingdom. And she went out, and said to her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptizer. And she came in straightway with haste to the king, and asked, saying, I will that you forthwith give me on a platter the head of John the Baptist. And the king was exceeding sorry; but for the sake of his oaths, and of them that sat at meat, he would not reject her. And straightway the king sent forth a soldier of his guard, and commanded to bring his head: and he went and beheaded him in the prison, and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the damsel; and the damsel gave it to her mother. And when his disciples heard thereof, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.

John 2 : 1 - And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: and Jesus also was bidden, and his disciples, to the marriage. And when the wine failed, the mother of Jesus said to him, They have no wine. And Jesus said to her, Woman, what have I to do with you? mine hour is not yet come.

John 8 : 1 - but Jesus went to the mount of Olives. And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him; and he sat down, and taught them. And the scribes and the Pharisees bring a woman taken in adultery; and having set her in the midst, they say to him, Teacher, this woman has been taken in adultery, in the very act. Now in the law Moses commanded us to stone such: what then say you of her? And this they said, trying him, that they might have whereof to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground. But when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said to them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. And again he stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground. And they, when they heard it, went out one by one, beginning from the eldest, even to the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman, where she was, in the midst. And Jesus lifted up himself, and said to her, Woman, where are they? did no man condemn you? And she said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said, Neither do I condemn you: go your way; from henceforth sin no more.

Romans 7 : 1 - Or are you ignorant, brethren (for I speak to men who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man for so long time as he lives? For the woman that has a husband is bound by law to the husband while he lives; but if the husband dies, she is discharged from the law of the husband. So then if, while the husband lives, she be joined to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if the husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is no adulteress, though she be joined to another man. Wherefore, my brethren, you also were made dead to the law through the body of Christ; that you should be joined to another, even to him who was raised from the dead, that we might bring forth fruit to God. For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions, which were through the law, wrought in our members to bring forth fruit to death. But now we have been discharged from the law, having died to that wherein we were held; so that we serve in newness of the spirit, and not in oldness of the letter

1 Corinthians 7 : 1 - It is good for a man not to marry. But since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband Let the husband render to the wife her due: and likewise also the wife to the husband.

1 Corinthians 7 : 32 - But I would have you to be free from cares. He that is unmarried is careful for the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord: but he that is married is careful for the things of the world, how he may please his wife, and is divided. So also the woman that is unmarried and the virgin is careful for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married is careful for the things of the world, how she may please her husband. And this I say for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is seemly, and that you may attend upon the Lord without distraction. But if any man thinks that he behaves himself unseemingly toward his virgin daughter, if she be past the flower of her age, and if need so requires, let him do what he will; he sins not; let them marry. But he that stands stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but has power as touching in his own heart, to keep his own virgin daughter, shall do well. So then both he that gives his own virgin daughter in marriage does well; and he that gives her not in marriage shall do better. A wife is bound for so long time as her husband lives; but if the husband be dead, she is free to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord. But she is happier if she abide as she is, after my judgment: and I think that I also have the Spirit of God.

Ephesians 5 : 23 - ... for the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, His body..

Ephesians 5 : 27 - Even so ought husbands also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He that loves his own wife loves himself: for no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourishes and cherishes it Nevertheless do you also severally love each one his own wife even as himself; and let the wife see that she fear her husband.

Ephesians 5 : 31 - For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh. This mystery is great: but I speak in regard of Christ and of the church. Nevertheless do you also severally love each one his own wife even as himself; and let the wife see that she fear her husband.

Colossians 3 : 18 - .Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.

1 Thessalonians 4 : 3 - Finally then, brethren, we beseech and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that, as you received of us how you ought to walk and to please God, even as you do walk, --that you abound more and more. For you know what charge we gave you through the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that you abstain from fornication; that each one of you know how to possess himself of his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in the passion of lust, even as the Gentiles who know not God; that no man transgress, and wrong his brother in the matter: because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as also we forewarned you and testified. For God called us not for uncleanness, but in sanctification. Therefore he that rejects, rejects not man, but God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you.

1 Timothy 4 : 3 - But the Spirit says expressly, that in later times some shall fall away from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons, through the hypocrisy of men that speak lies, branded in their own conscience as with a hot iron; forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by them that believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, if it be received with thanksgiving: for it is sanctified through the word of God and prayer

1 Timothy 5 : 11 - I desire therefore that the younger widows marry, bear children, rule the household, give no occasion to the adversary for reviling: for already some are turned aside after Satan. If any woman that believes has widows, let her relieve them, and let not the church be burdened; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.

Hebrews 13 : 4 - Let marriage be had in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled: for fornicators and adulterers God will judge

1 Peter 3 : 1 - In like manner, you wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, even if any obey not the word, they may without the word be gained by the behavior of their wives; beholding your chaste behavior coupled with fear. Whose adorning let it not be the outward adorning of braiding the hair, and of wearing jewels of gold, or of putting on apparel; but let it be the hidden man of the heart, in the incorruptible apparel of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. For after this manner aforetime the holy women also, who hoped in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands: as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose children you now are, if you do well, and are not put in fear by any terror.

1 Peter 3 : 7 - You husbands, in like manner, dwell with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman, as to the weaker vessel as being also joint-heirs of the grace of life; to the end that your prayers be not hindered.

Marriage (Old Testament)

Genesis 1 : 26 - And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth. And God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.( 28 ) And God blessed them: and God said to them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth. And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for food:and to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the heavens, and to everything that creeps upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for food: and it was so.( 31 ) And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

Genesis 2 : 18 - And Jehovah God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him. And out of the ground Jehovah God formed every beast of the field, and every bird of the heavens; and brought them to the man to see what he would call them: and whatever the man called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And the man gave names to all cattle, and to the birds of the heavens, and to every beast of the field; but for man there was not found a help meet for him. And Jehovah God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof: and the rib, which Jehovah God had taken from the man, made he a woman, and brought her to the man. And the man said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they shall be one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

Genesis 5 : 1 - This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; male and female created he them, and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.

Genesis 24 : 61 - And Rebekah arose, and her damsels, and they rode upon the camels, and followed the man. And the servant took Rebekah, and went his way. And Isaac came from the way of Beer-lahai-roi. For he dwelt in the land of the South. And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide. And he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, there were camels coming. And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she alighted from the camel. And she said to the servant, What man is this that walks in the field to meet us? And the servant said, It is my master. And she took her veil, and covered herself. And the servant told Isaac all the things that he had done. And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife. And he loved her. And Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.

Genesis 34 : 1 - And Dinah the daughter of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land. And Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her; And he took her, and lay with her, and humbled her. And his soul clave to Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the damsel, and spake kindly to the damsel. And Shechem spoke to his father Hamor, saying, Get me this damsel to wife. Now Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter; and his sons were with his cattle in the field: and Jacob held his peace until they came. And Hamor the father of Shechem went out to Jacob to commune with him. And the sons of Jacob came in from the field when they heard it: and the men were grieved, and they were very wroth, because he had wrought folly in Israel in lying with Jacob's daughter; which thing ought not to be done. And Hamor communed with them, saying, The soul of my son Shechem longs for your daughter: I pray you, give her to him to wife. And make marriages with us; give your daughters to us, and take our daughters to you. And you shall dwell with us: and the land shall be before you; dwell and trade therein, and get possessions therein. And Shechem said to her father and to her brethren, Let me find favor in your eyes, and what you shall say to me I will give. Ask me never so much dowry and gift, and I will give according as you shall say to me: but give me the damsel to wife. And the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father with guile, and spoke, because he had defiled Dinah their sister, and said to them, We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one that is uncircumcised; for that were a reproach to us. Only on this condition will we consent to you: if you will be as we are, that every male of you be circumcised; then will we give our daughters to you, and we will take your daughters to us, and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people. But if you will not hearken to us, to be circumcised; then will we take our daughter, and we will be gone. And their words pleased Hamor, and Shechem Hamor's son. And the young man deferred not to do the thing, because he had delight in Jacob's daughter: and he was honored above all the house of his father. And Hamor and Shechem his son came to the gate of their city, and communed with the men of their city, saying, These men are peaceable with us; therefore let them dwell in the land, and trade therein; for, behold, the land is large enough for them; let us take their daughters to us for wives, and let us give them our daughters. Only on this condition will the men consent to us to dwell with us, to become one people, if every male among us be circumcised, as they are circumcised. Shall not their cattle and their substance and all their beasts be ours? only let us consent to them, and they will dwell with us. And to Hamor and to Shechem his son hearkened all that went out of the gate of his city; and every male was circumcised, all that went out of the gate of his city. And it came to pass on the third day, when they were sore, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brethren, took each man his sword, and came upon the city unawares, and slew all the males. And they slew Hamor and Shechem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of Shechem's house, and went forth. The sons of Jacob came upon the slain, and plundered the city, because they had defiled their sister. They took their flocks and their herds and their asses, and that which was in the city, and that which was in the field; and all their wealth, and all their little ones and their wives, took they captive and made a prey, even all that was in the house. And Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, You have troubled me, to make me odious to the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites: and, I being few in number, they will gather themselves together against me and smite me; and I shall be destroyed, I and my house. And they said, Should he deal with our sister as with a harlot?

Judges 14 : 1 - And Samson went down to Timnah, and saw a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines. And he came up, and told his father and his mother, and said, I have seen a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines: now therefore get her for me to wife. Then his father and his mother said to him, Is there never a woman among the daughters of your brethren, or among all my people, that you go to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines? And Samson said to his father, Get her for me; for she pleases me well. But his father and his mother knew not that it was of Jehovah; for he sought an occasion against the Philistines. Now at that time the Philistines had rule over Israel. (Continued under 'Power Within )

Ruth 1 : 1 - And it came to pass in the days when the judges judged, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Beth-lehem-judah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons. And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Beth-lehem-judah. And they came into the country of Moab, and continued there. And Elimelech, Naomi's husband, died; and she was left, and her two sons. And they took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelt there about ten years. And Mahlon and Chilion died both of them; and the woman was left of her two children and of her husband. Then she arose with her daughters-in-law, that she might return from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that Jehovah had visited his people in giving them bread. And she went forth out of the place where she was, and her two daughters-in-law with her; and they went on the way to return to the land of Judah. And Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, Go, return each of you to her mother's house: Jehovah deal kindly with you, as you have dealt with the dead, and with me. Jehovah grant you that you may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband. Then she kissed them, and they lifted up their voice, and wept. And they said to her, No, but we will return with you to your people. And Naomi said, Turn again, my daughters: why will you go with me? have I yet sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands? Turn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have a husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should even have a husband to-night, and should also bear sons; would you therefore tarry till they were grown? would you therefore stay from having husbands? no, my daughters, for it grieves me much for your sakes, for the hand of Jehovah is gone forth against me. And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth clave to her. And she said, Behold, your sister-in-law is gone back to her people, and to her god: return after your sister-in-law. And Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave you, and to return from following after you, for whither you go, I will go; and where you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God my God;

Ruth 4 : 13 - So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife; and he went in to her, and Jehovah gave her conception, and she bore a son. And the women said to Naomi, Blessed be Jehovah, who has not left you this day without a near kinsman; and let his name be famous in Israel. And he shall be to you a restorer of life, and a nourisher of your old age, for your daughter-in-law, who loves you, who is better to you than seven sons, has borne him. And Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse to it. And the women her neighbors gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father of Jesse, the father of David.

2 Chronicles 11 : 19 - And Rehoboam took him a wife, Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, and of Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse; and she bare him sons: Jeush, and Shemariah, and Zaham. And after her he took Maacah the daughter of Absalom; and she bare him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith. And Rehoboam loved Maacah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines, and begat twenty and eight sons and threescore daughters.) And Rehoboam appointed Abijah the son of Maacah to be chief, even the prince among his brethren; for he was minded to make him king.
( 23 End ) And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his sons throughout all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, unto every fortified city: and he gave them victuals in abundance. And he sought for them many wives.

Esther 1 : 1 - Now it came to pass in the days of Ahasuerus (this is Ahasuerus who reigned from India even to Ethiopia, over a hundred and seven and twenty provinces), that in those days, when the king Ahasuerus sat on the throne of his kingdom, which was in Shushan the palace, in the third year of his reign, he made a feast to all his princes and his servants; the power of Persia and Media, the nobles and princes of the provinces, being before him; when he showed the riches of his glorious kingdom and the honor of his excellent majesty many days, even a hundred and fourscore days. And when these days were fulfilled, the king made a feast to all the people that were present in Shushan the palace, both great and small, seven days, in the court of the garden of the king's palace. There were hangings of white cloth, of green, and of blue, fastened with cords of fine linen and purple to silver rings and pillars of marble: the couches were of gold and silver, upon a pavement of red, and white, and yellow, and black marble. And they gave them drink in vessels of gold (the vessels being diverse one from another), and royal wine in abundance, according to the bounty of the king. And the drinking was according to the law; none could compel: for so the king had appointed to all the officers of his house, that they should do according to every man's pleasure.
Also Vashti the queen made a feast for the women in the royal house which belonged to king Ahasuerus. On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, the seven chamberlains that ministered in the presence of Ahasuerus the king, to bring Vashti the queen before the king with the crown royal, to show the peoples and the princes her beauty; for she was fair to look on. But the queen Vashti refused to come at the king's commandment by the chamberlains: therefore was the king very wroth, and his anger burned in him. Then the king said to the wise men, who knew the times, (for so was the king's manner toward all that knew law and judgment; and the next unto him were Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan, the seven princes of Persia and Media, who saw the king's face, and sat first in the kingdom), What shall we do to the queen Vashti according to law, because she has not done the bidding of the king Ahasuerus by the chamberlains? And Memucan answered before the king and the princes, Vashti the queen has not done wrong to the king only, but also to all the princes, and to all the peoples that are in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus. For this deed of the queen will come abroad to all women, to make their husbands contemptible in their eyes, when it shall be reported, The king Ahasuerus commanded Vashti the queen to be brought in before him, but she came not. And this day will the princesses of Persia and Media who have heard of the deed of the queen say the like to all the king's princes. So will there arise much contempt and wrath. If it please the king, let there go forth a royal commandment from him, and let it be written among the laws of the Persians and the Medes, that it be not altered, that Vashti come no more before king Ahasuerus; and let the king give her royal estate to another that is better than she. And when the king's decree which he shall make shall be published throughout all his kingdom (for it is great), all the wives will give to their husbands honor, both to great and small. And the saying pleased the king and the princes; and the king did according to the word of Memucan: for he sent letters to all the king's provinces, into every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language, that every man should bear rule in his own house, and should speak according to the language of his people (22).

Job 31 : 1 - I made a covenant with my eyes; How then should I look upon a virgin? For what is the portion from God above, And the heritage from the Almighty on high? Is it not calamity to the unrighteous, And disaster to the workers of iniquity? Does not he see my ways, And number all my steps? If I have walked with falsehood, And my foot has hastened to deceit (Let me be weighed in an even balance, That God may know my integrity); If my step has turned out of the way, And my heart walked after mine eyes, And if any spot has cleaved to my hands: Then let me sow, and let another eat; Yes, let the produce of my field be rooted out If my heart hath been enticed unto a woman, And I have laid wait at my neighbor’s door; Then let my wife grind to another, And let others bow down upon her. For that were a heinous crime; Yea, it were an iniquity to be punished by the judges: For it is a fire that consumes to Destruction, And would root out all m increase. If I have despised the cause of my man-servant or of my maid-servant, When they contended with me; What then shall I do when God rises up? And when he visits, what shall I answer him? Did not he that made me in the womb make him? And did not one fashion us in the womb? ( 15 ).

Proverbs 2 : 10 - For wisdom shall enter into your heart, And knowledge shall be pleasant to your soul; Discretion shall watch over you; Understanding shall keep you: To deliver you from the way of evil, From the men that speak perverse things; Who forsake the paths of uprightness, To walk in the ways of darkness; Who rejoice to do evil, And delight in the perverseness of evil; Who are crooked in their ways, And wayward in their paths: To deliver you from the strange woman, Even from the foreigner that flatters with her words; That forsakes the friend of her youth, And forgets the covenant of her God: For her house inclines to death, And her paths to the dead; None that go to her return again, Neither do they attain to the paths of life: That you may walk in the way of good men, And keep the paths of the righteous. For the upright shall dwell in the land, And the perfect shall remain in it. But the wicked shall be cut off from the land, And the treacherous shall be rooted out of it ( 22 End ).

Proverbs 5 : 1 - My son, attend to my wisdom; Incline your ear to my understanding: That you may preserve discretion, And that your lips may keep knowledge. For the lips of a strange woman drop honey, And her mouth is smoother than oil: But in the end she is bitter as wormwood, Sharp as a two-edged sword. Her feet go down to death; Her steps take hold on Sheol; So that she finds not the level path of life: Her ways are unstable, and she knows it not.( 7 ) Now therefore, my sons, hearken unto me, And depart not from the words of my mouth. Remove your way far from her, And come not near the door of her house; Lest you give your honor to others, And yor years to the cruel; Lest strangers be filled with your strength, And your labors be in the house of an alien,( 11 ) And you mourn at your latter end, When your flesh and your body are consumed, And say, How have I hated instruction, And my heart despised reproof; Neither have I obeyed the voice of my teachers, Nor inclined my ear to them that instructed me!(13 ) I was well-nigh in all evil In the midst of the assembly and congregation. Drink waters out of your own cistern, And running waters out of your own well.(15) Should your springs be dispersed abroad, And streams of water in the streets? Let them be for yourself alone, And not for strangers with you. Let your fountain be blessed; And rejoice in the wife of your youth. As a loving hind and a pleasant doe, Let her breasts satisfy you at all times; And be ravished always with her love. ( 20 ) For why should you, my son, be ravished with a strange woman And embrace the bosom of a foreigner?

Proverbs 12 : 4 - A worthy woman is the crown of her husband; But she that makes ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

Proverbs 18 : 22 - Whoso finds a wife finds a good thing, And obtaines favor of Jehovah.

Proverbs 19 : 13 - A foolish son is the calamity of his father; And the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping. House and riches are an inheritance from fathers; But a prudent wife is from Jehovah.

Proverbs 25 : 24 - It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, Than with a contentious woman in a wide house.

Proverbs 31 : 10 - A worthy woman who can find? For her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband trusts in her, And he shall have no lack of gain. She does him good and not evil All the days of her life. She seeks wool and flax, And works willingly with her hands. She is like the merchant-ships; She brings her bread from afar. She rises also while it is yet night, And gives food to her household, And their task to her maidens. She considers a field, and buys it; With the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard. She girds her loins with strength, And makes strong her arms. She perceives that her merchandise is profitable: Her lamp goes not out by night. She lays her hands to the distaff, And her hands hold the spindle. She stretches out her hand to the poor; Yes, she reachets forth her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of the snow for her household; For all her household are clothed with scarlet. She makes for herself carpets of tapestry; Her clothing is fine linen and purple. Her husband is known in the gates, When he sits among the elders of the land. She makes linen garments and sells them, And delivers girdles to the merchant. Strength and dignity are her clothing; And she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom; And the law of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household, And eats not the bread of idleness. Her children rise up, and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her, saying: Many daughters have done worthily, But you excell them all. Grace is deceitful, and beauty is vain; But a woman that fears Jehovah, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; And let her works praise her in the gates ( 31 ).

Isaiah 62 : 4 - You shall no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall your land any more be termed Desolate: but you shall be called Hephzi-bah, and your land Beulah; for Jehovah delights in you, and your land shall be married. For as a young man marries a virgin, so shall your sons marry you; and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you.

Hosea 2 : 14 - Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably to her. And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope; and she shall make answer there, as in the days of her youth and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt. And it shall be at that day, says Jehovah, that you shall call me Ishi, and shall call me no more Baali. For I will take away the names of the Baalim out of her mouth, and they shall no more be mentioned by their name. And in that day will I make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field, and with the birds of the heavens, and with the creeping things of the ground: and I will break the bow and the sword and the battle out of the land, and will make them to lie down safely. And I will betroth you to me for ever; yes, I will betroth you to me in righteousness, and in justice, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies. I will even betroth you to me in faithfulness; and you shall know Jehovah. And it shall come to pass in that day, I will answer, says Jehovah, I will answer the heavens, and they shall answer the earth; and the earth shall answer the grain, and the new wine, and the oil; and they shall answer Jezreel. And I will sow her to me in the earth; and I will have mercy on her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them that were not my people, You are my people; and they shall say, You are my God.. And Jehovah said to me, Go again, love a woman beloved of her friend, and an adulteress, even as Jehovah loves the children of Israel, though they turn to other gods, and love cakes of raisins. and I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them that were not my people, You are my people; and they shall say, You are my God. .... So I bought her to me for fifteen pieces of silver, and a homer of barley, and a half-homer of barley; and I said to her,You shall abide for me many days; you shall not play the harlot, and you shalt not be any man's wife: so will I also be toward you. (Abridged)

Malachi 2 : 15 - Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.

Virginity (New Testament)

1 Corinthians 7 : 25 - Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord: but I give my judgment, as one that has obtained mercy of the Lord to be trustworthy. I think therefore that this is good by reason of the distress that is upon us, namely, that it is good for a man to be as he is. Are you bound to a wife? Seek not to be loosed. Are you loosed from a wife? Seek not a wife. But should you marry, you have not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she has not sinned. Yet such shall have tribulation in the flesh: and I would spare you. But this I say, brethren, the time is shortened, that henceforth both those that have wives may be as though they had none; and those that weep, as though they wept not; and those that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and those that buy, as though they possessed not; and those that use the world, as not using it to the full: for the fashion of this world passes away.

Revelation 14 : 1 - And I saw, and behold, the Lamb standing on the mount Zion, and with him a hundred and forty and four thousand, having his name, and the name of his Father, written on their foreheads. And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and the voice which I heard was as the voice of harpers harping with their harps: and they sing as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four living creatures and the elders: and no man could learn the song save the hundred and forty and four thousand, even they that had been purchased out of the earth. These are they that were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they that follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These were purchased from among men, to be the firstfruits to God and to the Lamb. And in their mouth was found no lie: they are without blemish.

Virginity (Old Testament)

Deuteronomy 22 : 13 - If any man take a wife, and go in to her, and hate her, and lay shameful things to her charge, and bring up an evil name upon her, and say, I took this woman, and when I came nigh to her, I found not in her the tokens of virginity; then shall the father of the damsel, and her mother, take and bring forth the tokens of the damsel's virginity to the elders of the city in the gate; and the damsel's father shall say to the elders, I gave my daughter to this man to wife, and he hates her; and, look, he has laid shameful things to her charge, saying, I found not in your daughter the tokens of virginity; and yet these are the tokens of my daughter's virginity. And they shall spread the garment before the elders of the city. And the elders of that city shall take the man and chastise him; and they shall fine him a hundred shekels of silver, and give them to the father of the damsel, because he has brought up an evil name upon a virgin of Israel: and she shall be his wife; he may not put her away all his days. But if this thing be true, that the tokens of virginity were not found in the damsel; then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death with stones, because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the harlot in her father's house: so shall you put away the evil from the midst of you. If a man be found lying with a woman married to a husband, then they shall both of them die, the man that lay with the woman, and the woman: so shall you put away the evil from Israel. If there be a damsel that is a virgin betrothed to a husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her; then you shall bring them both out to the gate of that city, and you shall stone them to death with stones; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he has humbled his neighbor's wife: so you shall put away the evil from the midst of you. But if the man find the damsel that is betrothed in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her; then the man only that lay with her shall die: but to the damsel you shall do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death: for as when a man rises against his neighbor, and slays him, even so is this matter; for he found her in the field, the betrothed damsel cried, and there was none to save her. If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, that is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found; then the man that lay with her shall give to the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife, because he has humbled her; he may not put her away all his days. A man shall not take his father's wife, and shall not uncover his father's skirt

Sex (New Testament)

1 Corinthians 6 : 12 - All things are lawful for me; but not all things are expedient. All things are lawful for me; but I will not be brought under the power of any. Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall bring to nought both it and them. But the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body: and God both raised the Lord, and will raise up as through his power.

1 Corinthians 6 : 13 - Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall bring to nought both it and them. But the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body: and God both raised the Lord, and will raise up as through his power.

1 Corinthians 6 : 15 - Know you not that your bodies are members of Christ? shall I then take away the members of Christ, and make them members of a harlot? God forbid. Or know you not that he that is joined to a harlot is one body? for, The twain, says he, shall become one flesh. But he that is joined to the Lord is one spirit. Flee fornication. Every sin that a man does is without the body; but he that commits fornication sins against his own body.

1 Corinthians 6 : 19 - Or know you not that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? and you are not your own; for you were bought with a price: glorify God therefore in your body.

1 Corinthians 7 : 4 The wife has not power over her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband has not power over his own body, but the wife. Do not defraud one the other, except it be by consent for a season, that you may give yourselves to prayer, and may be together again, that Satan tempt you not because of your incontinency. But this I say by way of concession, not of commandment. Yet I would that all men were even as I myself. Howbeit each man has his own gift from God, one after this manner, and another after that. But I say to the unmarried and to widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I. But if they have not continency, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.

1 Corinthians 13 : 1 - If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am become sounding brass, or a clanging cymbal. And if I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And if I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. Love suffers long, and is kind; love envies not; love vaunts not itself, is not puffed up, does not behave itself unseemly, seeks not its own, is not provoked, takes no account of evil; rejoices not in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.

Ephesians 5 : 25 - Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself up for it; that he might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the washing of water with the word, that he might present the church to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. Even so ought husbands also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He that loves his own wife loves himself: for no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourishes and cherishes it, even as Christ also the church; because we are members of his body. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh. This mystery is great: but I speak in regard of Christ and of the church. Nevertheless do you also severally love each one his own wife even as himself; and let the wife see that she fear her husband.

1 Thessalonians 4 : 3 - For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that you abstain from fornication; that each one of you know how to possess himself of his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in the passion of lust, even as the Gentiles who know not God; that no man transgress, and wrong his brother in the matter: because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as also we forewarned you and testified. For God called us not for uncleanness, but in sanctification. Therefore he that rejects, rejects not man, but God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you.

Sex (Old Testament)

Genesis 1 : 27 - And God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them: and God said to them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.

Genesis 2 : 24 - a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife and they shall become one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

Genesis 3 : 15 - To the woman he said, I will greatly multiply your pain and your conception; in pain you shall bring forth children; and your desire shall be to your husband, and he shall rule over you.

Deuteronomy 24 : 5 - When a man takes a new wife, he shall not go out in the host, neither shall he be charged with any business: he shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer his wife whom he has taken.

Psalm 103 : 2 - Bless Jehovah, O my soul, And forget not all his benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities; Who heals all your diseases; Who redeems your life from destruction; Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfies your desire with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle. Jehovah executes righteous acts, And judgments for all that are oppressed. He made known his ways to Moses, His doings to the children of Israel. Jehovah is merciful and gracious, Slow to anger, and abundant in lovingkindness. He will not always chide; Neither will he keep his anger for ever. He has not dealt with us after our sins, Nor rewarded us after our iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earth, So great is his lovingkindness toward them that fear him. ( 12 ) As far as the east is from the west, So far has he removed our transgressions from us.
