- to Seek and to Save (New Testament)
Matthew 9 : 36 - And Jesus went about all the cities and the villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of disease and all manner of sickness. But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion for them, because they were distressed and scattered, as sheep not having a shepherd. Then said he to his disciples, The harvest indeed is plenteous, but the laborers are few. Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he send forth laborers into his harvest.
Matthew 18 : 10 - See that you despise not one of these little ones; for I say to you, that in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven. For the Son of man came to save that which was lost. How think you? if any man have a hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, does he not leave the ninety and nine, and go to the mountains, and seek that which goes astray? And if so be that he find it, verily I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety and nine which have not gone astray. Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.
Mark 1 : 40 - And there came to him a leper, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying to him, If you will, you can make me clean. And being moved with compassion, he stretched forth his hand, and touched him, and said to him, I will; be you made clean. And straightway the leprosy departed from him, and he was made clean. And he strictly charged him, and straightway sent him out, and said to him, See you say nothing to any man: but go show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing the things which Moses commanded, for a testimony to them. But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to spread abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into a city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter.
John 1 : 37 - And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. And Jesus turned, and beheld them following, and said to them, What seek you? And they said to him, Rabbi (which is to say, being interpreted, Teacher), where abide you? He said to them, Come, and you shall see. They came therefore and saw where he abode; and they abode with him that day: it was about the tenth hour. One of the two that heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. He found first his own brother Simon, and said to him, We have found the Messiah (which is, being interpreted, Christ). He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked upon him, and said, You are Simon the son of John: you shall be called Cephas (which is by interpretation, Peter).
- to tell Good News - (New Testament)
Luke 4 : 42 - And when it was day, he came out and went into a desert place: and the multitudes sought after him, and came to him, and would have stayed him, that he should not go from them. But he said to them, I must preach the good tidings of the kingdom of God to the other cities also: for therefore was I sent. And he was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.
John 10 : 11 - I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. He that is a hireling, and not a shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, beholds the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep, and flees, and the wolf snatches them, and scatters them: he flees because he is a hireling, and cares not for the sheep. even as the Father knows me, and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice: and they shall become one flock, one shepherd.
John 13 : 1 - Now before the feast of the passover, Jesus knowing that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world to his Father, having loved his own that were in the world, he loved them to the end. And during supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him, Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all the things into his hands, and that he came forth from God, and would go to God, rose from supper, and laid aside his garments; and he took a towel, and girded himself. Then he poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. So he came to Simon Peter. He said to him, Lord, do you wash my feet? Jesus answered and said to him, What I do you know not now; but you shall understand hereafter. Peter said to him, You shall never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash you not, you have no part with me. Simon Peter said to him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. Jesus said to him, He that is bathed needs not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and you are clean, but not all. For he knew him that should betray him; therefore said he, You are not all clean.
Luke 23 : 47 - And when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man. And all the multitudes that came together to this sight, when they beheld the things that were done, returned smiting their breasts. And all his acquaintance, and the women that followed with him from Galilee, stood afar off, seeing these things.
Mark 16 : 19 - So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word by the signs that followed. Amen.
- to tell Good News - (Old Testament)
Isaiah 63 : 1 - Who is this that comes from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his apparel, marching in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save. Wherefore are you red in your apparel, and your garments like him that treads in the winevat? I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the peoples there was no man with me: yes, I trod them in my anger, and trampled them in my wrath; and their lifeblood is sprinkled upon my garments, and I have stained all my raiment. For the day of vengeance was in my heart, and the year of my redeemed is come. And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore my own arm brought salvation to me; and my wrath, it upheld me. And I trod down the peoples in my anger, and made them drunk in my wrath, and I poured out their lifeblood on the earth.
- to Justify me (New Testament)
Matthew 27 : 22 (Mark 15 : 2, Luke 23 : 2, John 18 : 29 ) - Pilate said to them, What then shall I do to Jesus who is called Christ? They all say, Let him be crucified. And he said, Why, what evil has he done? But they cried out exceedingly, saying, Let him be crucified. So when Pilate saw that he prevailed nothing, but rather that a tumult was arising, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this righteous man; see you to it. And all the people answered and said, His blood be on us, and on our children. Then released he to them Barabbas; but Jesus he scourged and delivered to be crucified.
Mark 6 : 1 - And he went out from thence; and he comes into his own country; and his disciples follow him. And when the sabbath was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, Whence has this man these things? and, What is the wisdom that is given to this man, and what mean such mighty works wrought by his hands? Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James, and Joses, and Judas, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended in him.
Luke 22 : 63 - And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and beat him. And they blindfolded him, and asked him, saying, Prophesy: who is he that struck you? And many other things spoke they against him, reviling him. And as soon as it was day, the assembly of the elders of the people was gathered together, both chief priests and scribes; and they led him away into their council, saying, If you are the Christ, tell us. But he said to them, If I tell you, you will not believe: and if I ask you, you will not answer. But from henceforth shall the Son of man be seated at the right hand of the power of God. And they all said, Are you then the Son of God? And he said to them, You say that I am. And they said, What further need have we of witness? for we ourselves have heard from his own mouth.
Acts 4 : 10 - be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even in him does this man stand here before you whole. He is the stone which was set at nought of you the builders, which was made the head of the corner. And in none other is there salvation: for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, wherein we must be saved.
Romans 5 : 6 - For while we were yet weak, in due season Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: for peradventure for the good man some one would even dare to die. But God commends his own love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, shall we be saved from the wrath of God through him. For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, shall we be saved by his life
Titus 2 : 13 - looking for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a people for his own possession, zealous of good works. These things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no man despise you.
1 Peter 3 : 18 - Because Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God; being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; in which also he went and preached to the spirits in prison, that aforetime were disobedient, when the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water:
Revelation 5 : 9 - And they sing a new song, saying, Worthy are you to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for you were slain, and did purchase to God with your blood men of every tribe, and tongue, and people, and nation, and made them to be to our God a kingdom and priests; and they reign upon earth.
- to Justify me (Old Testament)
Isaiah 53 : 3 - He was despised, and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and as one from whom men hide their face he was despised; and we esteemed him not. Surely he has borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows; yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. He was oppressed, yet when he was afflicted he opened not his mouth; as a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and as a sheep that before its shearers is dumb, so he opened not his mouth. By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who among them considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living for the transgression of my people to whom the stroke was due? And they made his grave with the wicked, and with a rich man in his death; although he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. Yet it pleased Jehovah to bruise him; he has put him to grief: when you shall make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of Jehovah shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by the knowledge of himself shall my righteous servant justify many; and he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he poured out his soul to death, and was numbered with the transgressors: yet he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors ( 12 ).
- One Man for All Men (New Testament)
John 18 : 12 - So the band and the chief captain, and the officers of the Jews, seized Jesus and bound him, and led him to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, who was high priest that year. Now Caiaphas was he that gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.
Romans 5 : 15 - if by the trespass of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God, and the gift by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many. And not as through one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment came of one to condemnation, but the free gift came of many trespasses to justification. For if, by the trespass of the one, death reigned through the one; much more shall they that receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, even Jesus Christ.
Romans 5 : 18 - So then as through one trespass the judgment came to all men to condemnation; even so through one act of righteousness the free gift came to all men to justification of life. For as through the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the one shall the many be made righteous. And the law came in besides, that the trespass might abound; but where sin abounded, grace did abound more exceedingly: that, as sin reigned in death, even so might grace reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
2 Corinthians 5 : 14 - 16 - For the love of Christ constrains us; because we thus judge, that one died for all, therefore all died; and he died for all, that they that live should no longer live to themselves, but to him who for their sakes died and rose again. Wherefore we henceforth know no man after the flesh: even though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now we know him so no more.
