A - What The Maker's Manual says -

Wisdom (New Testament)

Matthew 7 : 6 - Give not that which is holy to the dogs, neither cast your pearls before the swine, lest haply they trample them under their feet, and turn and rend you.

Matthew 11 : 25 - At that season Jesus answered and said, I thank you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you hid these things from the wise and understanding, and did reveal them to babes: yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight. All things have been delivered to me of my Father: and no one knows the Son, save the Father; neither does any know the Father, save the Son, and he to whomever the Son wills to reveal him.

Luke 7 : 31 - Whereto then shall I liken the men of this generation, and to what are they like? They are like to children that sit in the marketplace, and call one to another; who say, We piped to you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not weep. For John the Baptist is come eating no bread nor drinking wine; and you say, He has a demon. The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and you say, Behold, a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners! And wisdom is justified of all her children.

Luke 21 : 12 - But before all these things, they shall lay their hands on you, and shall persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons, bringing you before kings and governors for my name's sake. It shall turn out to you for a testimony. Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate beforehand how to answer: for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to withstand or to gainsay.Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate beforehand how to answer: for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to withstand or to gainsay. But you shall be delivered up even by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolk, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death. And you shall be hated of all men for my name's sake. And not a hair of your head shall perish. In your patience you shall win your souls.

Romans 1 : 22 - Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

Romans 11 : 33 - O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past tracing out! For who has known the mind of the Lord? or who has been his counsellor? or who has first given to him, and it shall be recompensed to him again?

1 Corinthians 1 : 18 - For the word of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but to us who are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And the discernment of the discerning will I bring to nought. Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For seeing that in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom knew not God, it was God's good pleasure through the foolishness of the preaching to save them that believe. Seeing that Jews ask for signs, and Greeks seek after wisdom: but we preach Christ crucified, unto Jews a stumblingblock, and to Gentiles foolishness; but to them that are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For behold your calling, brethren, that not many wise after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: but God chose the foolish things of the world, that he might put to shame them that are wise; and God chose the weak things of the world, that he might put to shame the things that are strong; and the base things of the world, and the things that are despised, did God choose, yes and the things that are not, that he might bring to nought the things that are: that no flesh should glory before God.

1 Corinthians 2: 11 - For who among men knows the things of a man, save the spirit of the man, which is in him? even so the things of God none knows, save the Spirit of God  But we received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is from God; that we might know the things that were freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches, but which the Spirit teaches; combining spiritual things with spiritual words. Now the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot know them, because they are spiritually judged. But he that is spiritual judges all things, and he himself is judged of no man. For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he should instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

1 Corinthians 3: 18 - Let no man deceive himself. If any man thinks that he is wise among you in this world, let him become a fool, that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written,.... The Lord knows the reasonings of the wise that they are vain.

Ephesians 1 : 17 .... that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him; having the eyes of your heart enlightened, that you may know what is the hope of his calling, what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe

Colossians 2 : 1 - For I would have you know how greatly I strive for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh; that their hearts may be comforted, they being knit together in love, and to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, that they may know the mystery of God, even Christ, in whom are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge hidden.

James 1 : 5 - But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and upbraids not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing doubting: for he that doubts is like the surge of the sea driven by the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord;

James 3 : 13 - Who is wise and understanding among you? let him show by his good life his works in meekness of wisdom. But if you have bitter jealousy and faction in your heart, glory not and lie not against the truth. This wisdom is not a wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where jealousy and faction are, there is confusion and every vile deed. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without variance, without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace for them that make peace.

Wisdom (Old Testament)

Exodus 31 : 12 - And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, to devise skilful works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in cutting of stones for setting, and in carving of wood, to work in all manner of workmanship. And I, behold, I have appointed with him Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan; and in the heart of all that are wise-hearted I have put wisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded you: the tent of meeting, and the ark of the testimony, and the mercy-seat that is thereupon, and all the furniture of the Tent, and the table and its vessels, and the pure candlestick with all its vessels, and the altar of incense, and the altar of burnt-offering with all its vessels, and the laver and its base, and the finely wrought garments, and the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons, to minister in the priest’s office, and the anointing oil, and the incense of sweet spices for the holy place: according to all that I have commanded you shall they do.( 11 )

2 Samuel 16 : 15 - And Absalom, and all the people, the men of Israel, came to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel with him. And it came to pass, when Hushai the Archite, David’s friend, was come to Absalom, that Hushai said to Absalom, Long live the king, Long live the king. And Absalom said to Hushai, Is this your kindness to your friend? why went you not with your friend? And Hushai said to Absalom, No; but whom Jehovah, and this people, and all the men of Israel have chosen, his will I be, and with him will I abide. And again, whom should I serve? should I not serve in the presence of his son? as I have served in your father’s presence, so will I be in your presence. Then said Absalom to Ahithophel, Give your counsel what we shall do. And Ahithophel said to Absalom, Go in to your father’s concubines, that he has left to keep the house; and all Israel will hear that you are abhorred of your father: then will the hands of all that are with you be strong. So they spread Absalom a tent upon the top of the house; and Absalom went in to his father’s concubines in the sight of all Israel. And the counsel of Ahithophel, which he gave in those days, was as if a man inquired at the oracle of God: so was all the counsel of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom.

1 Kings 3 : 16 - Then there came two women that were harlots, to the king, and stood before him. And the one woman said, Oh, my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house. And it came to pass the third day after I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also; and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house. And this woman’s child died in the night, because she lay upon it. And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while your handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom. And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead; but when I had looked at it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, whom I did bear. And the other woman said, No; but the living is my son, and the dead is your son. And this said, No; but the dead is your son, and the living is my son. Thus they spoke before the king. Then said the king, The one says, This is my son that lives, and your son is the dead: and the other says, No; but your son is the dead, and my son is the living. And the king said, Fetch me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king. And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other. Then spoke the woman whose the living child was to the king, for her heart yearned over her son, and she said, Oh, my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, It shall be neither mine nor yours; divide it. Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof. ( 28 All ) And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do justice.

1 Kings 4 : 29 - And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea-shore. And Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east, and all the wisdom of Egypt. For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Calcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame was in all the nations round about. And he spoke three thousand proverbs; and his songs were a thousand and five. And he spoke of trees, from the cedar that is in Lebanon even to the hyssop that springs out of the wall; he spoke also of beasts, and of birds, and of creeping things, and of fishes. And there came of all peoples to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, who had heard of his wisdom.( 34 End )

1 Kings 10 : 1 ( 2 Chronicles 9 : 1 ) And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of Jehovah, she came to prove him with hard questions. And she came to Jerusalem with a very great train, with camels that bare spices, and very much gold, and precious stones; and when she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart. And Solomon told her all her questions: there was not anything hid from the king which he told her not. And when the queen of Sheba had seen all the wisdom of Solomon, and the house that he had built, and the food of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their apparel, and his cupbearers, and his ascent by which he went up to the house of Jehovah; there was no more spirit in her. And she said to the king, It was a true report that I heard in my own land of your acts, and of your wisdom. Howbeit I believed not the words, until I came, and my eyes had seen it: and, behold, the half was not told me; your wisdom and prosperity exceed the fame which I heard. Happy are your men, happy are these your servants, that stand continually before you, and that hear your wisdom. Blessed be Jehovah your God, who delighted in you, to set you on the throne of Israel: because Jehovah loved Israel for ever, therefore made he you king, to do justice and righteousness. And she gave the king a hundred and twenty talents of gold, and of spices very great store, and precious stones: there came no more such abundance of spices as these which the queen of Sheba gave to king Solomon. And the navy also of Hiram, that brought gold from Ophir, brought in from Ophir great plenty of almug-trees and precious stones. And the king made of the almug-trees pillars for the house of Jehovah, and for the king’s house, harps also and psalteries for the singers: there came no such almug-trees, nor were seen, to this day. And king Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all her desire, whatever she asked, besides that which Solomon gave her of his royal bounty. So she turned, and went to her own land, she and her servants. ( 13 )

2 Kings 20 : 12 ( Isaiah 39 : 1) - At that time Berodachbaladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah: for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick. And Hezekiah hearkened to them, and shewed them all the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not. Then came Isaiah the prophet to king Hezekiah, and said to him, What said these men? and from whence came they to you? And Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country, even from Babylon. And he said, What have they seen in your house? And Hezekiah answered, All the things that are in my house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed them. And Isaiah said to Hezekiah, Hear the word of the LORD. Behold, the days come, that all that is in your house, and that which your fathers have laid up in store to this day, shall be carried into Babylon: nothing shall be left, says the LORD. And of your sons that shall issue from you, which you shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon. Then said Hezekiah to Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD which you have spoken. And he said, Is it not good, if peace and truth be in my days? And the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made a pool, and a conduit, and brought water into the city, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? ( 21 ) And Hezekiah slept with his fathers: and Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.

2 Chronicles 1 : 1 - And Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and Jehovah his God was with him, and magnified him exceedingly. And Solomon spoke to all Israel, to the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and to the judges, and to every prince in all Israel, the heads of the fathers’ houses. So Solomon, and all the assembly with him, went to the high place that was at Gibeon; for there was the tent of meeting of God, which Moses the servant of Jehovah had made in the wilderness. But the ark of God had David brought up from Kiriath-jearim to the place that David had prepared for it; for he had pitched a tent for it at Jerusalem. Moreover the brazen altar, that Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made, was there before the tabernacle of Jehovah: and Solomon and the assembly sought to it. And Solomon went up thither to the brazen altar before Jehovah, which was at the tent of meeting, and offered a thousand burnt-offerings upon it .In that night did God appear to Solomon, and said to him, Ask what I shall give you. And Solomon said to God, You have showed great lovingkindness to David my father, and have made me king in his stead. Now, O Jehovah God, let your promise to David my father be established; for you have made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude. Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this your people, that is so great? And God said to Solomon, Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked riches, wealth, or honor, nor the life of them that hate you, neither yet have asked long life; but have asked wisdom and knowledge for tyour self, that you may judge my people, over whom I have made you king: wisdom and knowledge is granted to you; and I will give you riches, and wealth, and honor, such as none of the kings have had that have been before you; neither shall there any after you have the like.

Esther 5 : 1 - ( Narrative continued from topic 'Fight for Right ' ) Now it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king’s house, over against the king’s house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the entrance of the house. And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favor in his sight; and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre. Then said the king to her, What will you, queen Esther? and what is your request? it shall be given you even to the half of the kingdom. And Esther said, If it seem good to the king, let the king and Haman come this day to the banquet that I have prepared for him. Then the king said, Cause Haman to make haste, that it may be done as Esther has said. So the king and Haman came to the banquet that Esther had prepared. And the king said to Esther at the banquet of wine, What is your petition? and it shall be granted you: and what is your request? even to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed. Then answered Esther, and said, My petition and my request is: if I have found favor in the sight of the king, and if it please the king to grant my petition, and to perform my request, let the king and Haman come to the banquet that I shall prepare for them, and I will do to-morrow as the king has said. ( Narrative continued under topic ' Enemy Alert' )

Job 12 : 1 - And Job answered and said, No doubt but you are the people, and wisdom shall die with you. But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: yes, who knows not such things as these? I am as one mocked of his neighbour, who calls upon God, and he answers him: the just upright man is laughed to scorn. He that is ready to slip with his feet is as a lamp despised in the thought of him that is at ease. The tabernacles of robbers prosper, and they that provoke God are secure; into whose hand God brings abundantly. But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach you; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell you: Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach you: and the fishes of the sea shall declare to you. Who knows not in all these that the hand of the LORD has wrought this? In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind. Does not the ear try words? and the mouth taste his meat?

Job 28 : 12 - But where shall wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding? Man knows not the price thereof; Neither is it found in the land of the living. The deep says, It is not in me; And the sea says, It is not with me. It cannot be gotten for gold, Neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof. It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, With the precious onyx, or the sapphire. Gold and glass cannot equal it, Neither shall it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold. No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal: Yes, the price of wisdom is above rubies. The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, Neither shall it be valued with pure gold. Whence then comes wisdom? And where is the place of understanding? Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, And kept close from the birds of the heavens. Destruction and Death say, We have heard a rumor thereof with our ears. God understands the way thereof, And he knows the place thereof. For he looks to the ends of the earth, And sees under the whole heaven; To make a weight for the wind: Yes, he metes out the waters by measure. When he made a decree for the rain, And a way for the lightning of the thunder; Then did he see it, and declare it; He established it, yes, and searched it out. And to man he said,Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; And to depart from evil is understanding.

Job 32 : 8 - But there is a spirit in man, And the breath of the Almighty gives them understanding. It is not the great that are wise, Nor the aged that understand justice.

Psalm 90 : 13 - Return, O Jehovah; How long? And let it repent you concerning your servants. Oh satisfy us in the morning with your lovingkindness, That we may rejoice and be glad all our days. Make us glad according to the days wherein you have afflicted us, And the years wherein we have seen evil. Let your work appear to your servants, And your glory upon their children. And let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us; And establish you the work of our hands upon us; Yes, the work of our hands establish you it.

Psalm 94 : 8 - Consider, you brutish among the people; And you fools, when will you be wise? He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? He that formed the eye, shall he not see? He that chastises the nations, shall not he correct, Even he that teaches man knowledge? Jehovah knows the thoughts of man, That they are vanity.

Psalm 119 : 98 - Your commandments make me wiser than my enemies; For they are ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers; For your testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the aged, Because I have kept your precepts.

Proverbs 1 : 20 - Wisdom cries aloud in the street; She utters her voice in the broad places; She cries in the chief place of concourse; At the entrance of the gates, In the city, she utters her words: How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? And scoffers delight them in scoffing, And fools hate knowledge? Turn you at my reproof: Behold, I will pour out my spirit upon you; I will make known my words to you. Because I have called, and you have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man has regarded; But you have set at nought all my counsel, And would none of my reproof: I also will laugh in the day of your calamity; I will mock when your fear comes; When your fear comes as a storm, And your calamity comes on as a whirlwind; When distress and anguish come upon you. Then will they call upon me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they shall not find me: For that they hated knowledge, And did not choose the fear of Jehovah: They would none of my counsel; They despised all my reproof. Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, And be filled with their own devices.

Proverbs 2 : 1 - My son, if you will receive my words, And lay up my commandments with you; So as to incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding; Yes, if you cry after discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding; If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hid treasures: Then shall you understand the fear of Jehovah, And find the knowledge of God. For Jehovah gives wisdom; Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding: He lays up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to them that walk in integrity; That he may guard the paths of justice, And preserve the way of his saints. Then shall you understand righteousness and justice, And equity, yes, every good path ( 9 ).

Proverbs 4 : 5 - Get wisdom, get understanding; Forget not, neither decline from the words of my mouth; Forsake her not, and she will preserve you; Love her, and she will keep you. Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom; Yes, with all your getting get understanding. Exalt her, and she will promote you; She will bring you to honor, when you embrace her. She will give to your head a chaplet of grace; A crown of beauty will she deliver to you. Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; And the years of your life shall be many. I have taught you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in paths of uprightness. When you go, your steps shall not be straitened; And if you run, you shall not stumble. Take fast hold of instruction; Let her not go: Keep her; For she is your life.( 14 )

Proverbs 8 : 5 - O you simple, understand prudence; And, you fools, be of an understanding heart. Hear, for I will speak excellent things; And the opening of my lips shall be right things. For my mouth shall utter truth; And wickedness is an abomination to my lips. All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; There is nothing crooked or perverse in them. They are all plain to him that understands, And right to them that find knowledge. Receive my instruction, and not silver; And knowledge rather than choice gold. For wisdom is better than rubies; And all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it ( 11 ). I wisdom have made prudence my dwelling, And find out knowledge and discretion. The fear of Jehovah is to hate evil: Pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, And the perverse mouth, do I hate. Counsel is mine, and sound knowledge: I am understanding; I have might. By me kings reign, And princes decree justice. By me princes rule, And nobles, even all the judges of the earth. I love them that love me; And those that seek me diligently shall find me. Riches and honor are with me; Yes, durable wealth and righteousness. My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; And my revenue than choice silver. I walk in the way of righteousness, In the midst of the paths of justice; That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance, And that I may fill their treasuries.( 21 End )

Proverbs 16 : 1 - The plans of the heart belong to man; But the answer of the tongue is from Jehovah. All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; But Jehovah weighs the spirits. Commit your works to Jehovah, And your purposes shall be established. Jehovah has made everything for its own end; Yes, even the wicked for the day of evil ( 4 ).

Proverbs 17: 23 - A wicked man receives a bribe out of the bosom, To pervert the ways of justice. Wisdom is before the face of him that has understanding; But the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth. A foolish son is a grief to his father, And bitterness to her that bore him. Also to punish the righteous is not good, Nor to smite the noble for their uprightness

Proverbs 19 : 8 - He that gets wisdom loves his own soul: He that keeps understanding shall find good. A false witness shall not be unpunished; And he that utters lies shall perish. Delicate living is not seemly for a fool; Much less for a servant to have rule over princes. The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger; And it is his glory to pass over a transgression. The king’s wrath is as the roaring of a lion; But his favor is as dew upon the grass.(12 )

Proverbs 22 : 17 - Incline your ear, and hear the words of the wise, And apply your heart to my knowledge. For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you, If they be established together upon your lips. That your trust may be in Jehovah, I have made them known to you this day, even to you. Have not I written to you excellent things Of counsels and knowledge, To make you know the certainty of the words of truth, That you may carry back words of truth to them that send you?

Proverbs 23 : 9 - Speak not in the hearing of a fool ; For he will despise the wisdom of your words. Remove not the ancient landmark; And enter not into the fields of the fatherless : For their Redeemer is strong; He will plead their cause against you.
Apply your heart to instruction, And your ears to the words of knowledge. ( 12 )

Proverbs 26 : 1 - As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, So honor is not seemly for a fool. As the sparrow in her wandering, as the swallow in her flying, So the curse that is causeless alights not. A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, And a rod for the back of fools. Answer not a fool according to his folly, Lest you also be like to him. Answer a fool according to his folly, Lest he be wise in his own conceit. He that sends a message by the hand of a fool Cuts off his own feet, and drinks in damage. The legs of the lame hang loose: So is a parable in the mouth of fools. As one that binds a stone in a sling, So is he that gives honor to a fool. As a thorn that goes up into the hand of a drunkard, So is a parable in the mouth of fools.( 9 )

Proverbs 26 : 10 - As an archer that wounds all, So is he that hires a fool and he that hires them that pass by. As a dog that returns to his vomit, So is a fool that repeats his folly. See you a man wise in his own conceit? There is more hope of a fool than of him. The sluggard says, There is a lion in the way; A lion is in the streets. As the door turns upon its hinges, So does the sluggard upon his bed. The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; It wearies him to bring it again to his mouth. The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit Than seven men that can render a reason. He that passes by, and vexes himself with strife belonging not to him, Is like one that takes a dog by the ears. As a madman who casts firebrands, Arrows, and death, So is the man that deceives his neighbor, And says, Am not I in sport ( 19 )

Proverbs 30 : 24 - There are four things which are little upon the earth, But they are exceeding wise: The ants are a people not strong, Yet they provide their food in the summer; The conies are but a feeble folk, Yet make they their houses in the rocks; The locusts have no king, Yet go they forth all of them by bands; The lizard takes hold with her hands, Yet is she in kings’ palaces.( 28 )

Ecclesiastes 1 : 12 - I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem. And I applied my heart to seek and to search out by wisdom concerning all that is done under heaven: it is a sore travail that God has given to the sons of men to be exercised therewith. I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and a striving after wind. That which is crooked cannot be made straight; and that which is wanting cannot be numbered. I communed with my own heart, saying, Lo, I have gotten me great wisdom above all that were before me in Jerusalem; yes, my heart has had great experience of wisdom and knowledge. And I applied my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also was a striving after wind. For in much wisdom is much grief; and he that increases knowledge increases sorrow.

Ecclesiastes 7 : 11 - Wisdom is as good as an inheritance; yes, more excellent is it for them that see the sun. For wisdom is a defence, even as money is a defence; but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom preserves the life of him that has it. Consider the work of God: for who can make that straight, which he has made crooked? In the day of prosperity be joyful, and in the day of adversity consider; yes, God has made the one side by side with the other, to the end that man should not find out anything that shall be after him.

Ecclesiastes 7 : 19 - Wisdom is a strength to the wise man more than ten rulers that are in a city.

Ecclesiastes 8 : 1 - Who is as the wise man? and who knows the interpretation of a thing? A man’s wisdom makes his face to shine, and the hardness of his face is changed.

Jeremiah 9 : 12 - Who is the wise man, that may understand this? and who is he to whom the mouth of Jehovah has spoken, that he may declare it? wherefore is the land perished and burned up like a wilderness, so that none passes through? And Jehovah says, Because they have forsaken my law which I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice, neither walked therein, but have walked after the stubbornness of their own heart, and after the Baalim, which their fathers taught them; therefore thus says Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will feed them, even this people, with wormwood, and give them water of gall to drink. I will scatter them also among the nations, whom neither they nor their fathers have known; and I will send the sword after them, till I have consumed them. Thus says Jehovah of hosts, Consider you, and call for the mourning women, that they may come; and send for the skilful women, that they may come: and let them make haste, and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears, and our eyelids gush out with waters. For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion, How are we ruined! we are greatly confounded, because we have forsaken the land, because they have cast down our dwellings. Yet hear the word of Jehovah, O you women, and let your ear receive the word of his mouth; and teach your daughters wailing, and every one her neighbor lamentation. For death is come up into our windows, it is entered into our palaces; to cut off the children from without, and the young men from the streets. ( 22 ) Speak, Thus says Jehovah, The dead bodies of men shall fall as dung upon the open field, and as the handful after the harvestman; and none shall gather them.

Jeremiah 49 : 7 - Of Edom. Thus says Jehovah of hosts: Is wisdom no more in Teman? is counsel perished from the prudent? is their wisdom vanished? Flee you, turn back, dwell in the depths, O inhabitants of Dedan; for I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him, the time that I shall visit him. If grape-gatherers came to you, would they not leave some gleaning grapes? if thieves by night, would they not destroy till they had enough? But I have made Esau bare, I have uncovered his secret places, and he shall not be able to hide himself: his seed is destroyed, and his brethren, and his neighbors; and he is not. Leave your fatherless children, I will preserve them alive; and let your widows trust in me. For thus says Jehovah: Behold, they to whom it pertained not to drink of the cup shall assuredly drink; and are you he that shall altogether go unpunished? you shall not go unpunished, but you shall surely drink. For I have sworn by myself, says Jehovah, that Bozrah shall become an astonishment, a reproach, a waste, and a curse; and all the cities thereof shall be perpetual wastes. I have heard tidings from Jehovah, and an ambassador is sent among the nations, saying, Gather yourselves together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle. For, behold, I have made you small among the nations, and despised among men. As for your terribleness, the pride of your heart has deceived you, O you that dwells in the clefts of the rock, that holds the height of the hill: though you should make your nest as high as the eagle, I will bring you down from thence, says Jehovah. And Edom shall become an astonishment: every one that passes by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss at all the plagues thereof. As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbor cities thereof, says Jehovah, no man shall dwell there, neither shall any son of man sojourn therein. Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the pride of the Jordan against the strong habitation: for I will suddenly make them run away from it; and whoso is chosen, him will I appoint over it: for who is like me? and who will appoint me a time? and who is the shepherd that will stand before me? Therefore hear you the counsel of Jehovah, that he has taken against Edom; and his purposes, that he has purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely they shall drag them away, even the little ones of the flock; surely he shall make their habitation desolate over them. The earth trembles at the noise of their fall; there is a cry, the noise whereof is heard in the Red Sea. ( 22 ) Behold, he shall come up and fly as the eagle, and spread out his wings against Bozrah: and the heart of the mighty men of Edom at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs. Of Damascus. Hamath is confounded, and Arpad; for they have heard evil tidings, they are melted away: there is sorrow on the sea; it cannot be quiet. Damascus is waxed feeble, she turns herself to flee, and trembling has seized on her: anguish and sorrows have taken hold of her, as of a woman in travail. How is the city of praise not forsaken, the city of my joy? Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all the men of war shall be brought to silence in that day, says Jehovah of hosts. ( 27 ) And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, and it shall devour the palaces of Ben-hadad.

Ezekiel 28 : 1 - The word of the LORD came again to me, saying, Son of man, say to the prince of Tyrus, Thus says the Lord GOD; Because your heart is lifted up, and you have said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet you are a man, and not God, though you set your heart as the heart of God: Behold, you are wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that they can hide from you: With your wisdom and with your understanding you have gotten you riches, and have gotten gold and silver into your treasures: By your great wisdom and by your traffick have you increased your riches, and your heart is lifted up because of your riches: Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; Because you have set your heart as the heart of God; Behold, therefore I will bring strangers upon you, the terrible of the nations: and they shall draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom, and they shall defile your brightness. They shall bring you down to the pit, and you shall die the deaths of them that are slain in the midst of the seas. Will you yet say before him that slays you, I am God? but you shall be a man, and no God, in the hand of him that slays you. You shall die the deaths of the uncircumcised by the hand of strangers: for I have spoken it, says the Lord GOD. Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say to him, Thus says the Lord GOD; you seal up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. You have been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in you in the day that you were created. You are the anointed cherub that covers; and I have set you so: you were upon the holy mountain of God; you have walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. You were perfect in your ways from the day that you were created, till iniquity was found in you. By the multitude of your merchandise they have filled the midst of you with violence, and you have sinned: therefore I will cast you as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy you, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty, you have corrupted your wisdom by reason of your brightness: I will cast you to the ground, I will lay you before kings, that they may behold you. You have defiled your sanctuaries by the multitude of your iniquities, by the iniquity of your traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of you, it shall devour you, and I will bring you to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold you. 19 All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more. ( 20 ) Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Son of man, set your face against Zidon, and prophesy against it, And say, Thus says the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against you, O Zidon; and I will be glorified in the midst of you: and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall have executed judgments in her, and shall be sanctified in her. For I will send into her pestilence, and blood into her streets; and the wounded shall be judged in the midst of her by the sword upon her on every side; and they shall know that I am the LORD. And there shall be no more a pricking brier to the house of Israel, nor any grieving thorn of all that are round about them, that despised them; and they shall know that I am the Lord GOD. Thus says the Lord GOD; When I shall have gathered the house of Israel from the people among whom they are scattered, and shall be sanctified in them in the sight of the heathen, then shall they dwell in their land that I have given to my servant Jacob. ( 26 End ) And they shall dwell safely therein, and shall build houses, and plant vineyards; yes, they shall dwell with confidence, when I have executed judgments upon all those that despise them round about them; and they shall know that I am the LORD their God.

Hosea 14 : 9 - Who is wise, that he may understand these things? prudent, that he may know them? for the ways of Jehovah are right, and the just shall walk in them; but transgressors shall fall therein.

Daniel 2 : 20 - Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever; for wisdom and might are his. And he changes the times and the seasons; he removes kings, and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to them that have understanding he reveals the deep and secret things; he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him. I thank you, and praise you, O thou God of my fathers, who has given me wisdom and might, and has now made known to me what we desired of you; for you have made known to us the king's matter.

Knowledge (New Testament)

Romans 11 : 33 - O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past tracing out! For who has known the mind of the Lord? or who has been his counsellor? or who has first given to him, and it shall be recompensed to him again?( 36 ) For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things. To him be the glory for ever. Amen.

1 Corinthians 8 : 1 - We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies.

Knowledge
(Old Testament)

Hosea 4 : 6 - My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you, that you shall be no priest to me: seeing you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.

Hosea 6 : 6 - For I desire goodness, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt-offerings.

Habakkuk 2 : 14 - For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of Jehovah, as the waters cover the sea.

Moderation (Old Testament)

1 Samuel 18 : 28 - And Saul was yet the more afraid of David; and Saul was David’s enemy continually. Then the princes of the Philistines went forth: and it came to pass, as often as they went forth, that David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was much set by.

Ecclesiastes 7 : 16 - Be not righteous overmuch; neither make yourself overwise: why should You destroy yourself? Be not overmuch wicked, neither be you foolish: why should you die before your time? It is good that you should take hold of this; yes, also from that withdraw not your hand: for he that fears God shall come forth from them all.( 18 )
