A - What The Maker's Manual says -

Work - Love it ! (New Testament)

Romans 16 : 21 - Timothy my fellow-worker salutes you; and Lucius and Jason and Sosipater, my kinsmen. I Tertius, who write the epistle, salute you in the Lord. Gaius my host, and of the whole church, salute you. Erastus the treasurer of the city salutes you, and Quartus the brother. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

Ephesians 6 : 5 - Servants, be obedient to them that according to the flesh are your masters, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; not in the way of eyeservice, as men-pleasers; but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; with good will doing service, as unto the Lord, and not unto men: knowing that whatever good thing each one does, the same shall he receive again from the Lord, whether he be bond or free. And, you masters, do the same things to them, and forbear threatening: knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no respect of persons with him.

Colossians 3 : 23 - Servants, obey in all things them that are your masters according to the flesh; not with eye-service, as men-pleasers, but in singleness of heart, fearing the Lord: whatsoever you do, work heartily, as to the Lord, and not to men; knowing that from the Lord you shall receive the recompense of the inheritance: you serve the Lord Christ. For he that does wrong shall receive again for the wrong that he has done: and there is no respect of persons. Masters, render to your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that you also have a Master in heaven.

1 Thessalonians 2 : 7 - But we were gentle in the midst of you, as when a nurse cherishes her own children: even so, being affectionately desirous of you, we were well pleased to impart to you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because you were become very dear to us. For you remember, brethren, our labor and travail: working night and day, that we might not burden any of you, we preached to you the gospel of God. You are witnesses, and God also, how holily and righteously and unblameably we behaved ourselves toward you that believe:

2 Thessalonians 3 : 6 - Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw yourselves from every brother that walks disorderly, and not after the tradition which they received of us. For yourselves know how you ought to imitate us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you; neither did we eat bread for nought at any man's hand, but in labor and travail, working night and day, that we might not burden any of you: not because we have not the right, but to make ourselves an ensample to you, that you should imitate us. For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, If any will not work, neither let him eat. For we hear of some that walk among you disorderly, that work not at all, but are busybodies. Now them that are such we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.

1 Timothy 6 : 1 - Let as many as are servants under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor, that the name of God and the doctrine be not blasphemed. And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but let them serve them the rather, because they that partake of the benefit are believing and beloved. These things teach and exhort.

Titus 2 : 9 - Exhort servants to be in subjection to their own masters, and to be well-pleasing to them in all things; not gainsaying; not purloining, but showing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.

Work - Love it ! (Old Testament)

Genesis 1 : 26 - And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth. And God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them: and God said to them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth. And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for food: and to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the heavens, and to everything that creeps upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for food: and it was so.....

Genesis 2 : 15 - And Jehovah God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

Genesis 30 : 28 - And it came to pass, when Rachel had borne Joseph, that Jacob said to Laban, Send me away, that I may go to my own place, and to my country. Give me my wives and my children for whom I have served you, and let me go: for you know my service wherewith I have served you. And Laban said to him, If now I have found favor in your eyes, tarry: for I have divined that Jehovah has blessed me for your sake. And he said, Appoint me your wages, and I will give it. And he said to him, You know how I have served you, and how your cattle have fared with me. For it was little which you had before I came, and it has increased to a multitude; and Jehovah has blessed you whithersoever I turned: and now when shall I provide for my own house also? And he said, What shall I give you? And Jacob said, You shall not give me aught: if you will do this thing for me, I will again feed your flock and keep it. I will pass through all your flock to-day, removing from thence every speckled and spotted one, and every black one among the sheep, and the spotted and speckled among the goats: and of such shall be my hire. So shall my righteousness answer for me hereafter, when you shall come concerning my hire that is before you: every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and black among the sheep, that, if found with me, shall be counted stolen. And Laban said, Behold, I would it might be according to your word. And he removed that day the he-goats that were ringstreaked and spotted, and all the she-goats that were speckled and spotted, every one that had white in it, and all the black ones among the sheep, and gave them into the hand of his sons; and he set three days’ journey betwixt himself and Jacob: and Jacob fed the rest of Laban’s flocks. And Jacob took him rods of fresh poplar, and of the almond and of the plane-tree; and peeled white streaks in them, and made the white appear which was in the rods. And he set the rods which he had peeled over against the flocks in the gutters in the watering-troughs where the flocks came to drink; and they conceived when they came to drink. And the flocks conceived before the rods, and the flocks brought forth ringstreaked, speckled, and spotted. And Jacob separated the lambs, and set the faces of the flocks toward the ringstreaked and all the black in the flock of Laban: and he put his own droves apart, and put them not to Laban’s flock. And it came to pass, whenever the stronger of the flock did conceive, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the flock in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods; but when the flock were feeble, he put them not in: so the feebler were Laban’s, and the stronger Jacob’s. And the man increased exceedingly, and had large flocks, and maid-servants and men-servants, and camels and asses.

Genesis 39 : 1 -.And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh's, the captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hand of the Ishmaelites, that had brought him down thither. And Jehovah was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that Jehovah was with him, and that Jehovah made all that he did to prosper in his hand. And Joseph found favor in his sight, and he ministered to him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand. And it came to pass from the time that he made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that Jehovah blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of Jehovah was upon all that he had, in the house and in the field. And he left all that he had in Joseph's hand; and he knew not aught that was with him, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was comely, and well-favored.

Exodus 20 : 8 - Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shall you labor, and do all your work; but the seventh day is a sabbath to Jehovah your God: in it you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your man-servant, nor your maid-servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates: for in six days Jehovah made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore Jehovah blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Numbers 8 : 23 - And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, This is that which belongs to the Levites: from twenty and five years old and upward they shall go in to wait upon the service in the work of the tent of meeting: and from the age of fifty years they shall cease waiting on the work, and shall serve no more, but shall minister with their brethren in the tent of meeting, to keep the charge, and shall do no service. Thus shall you do to the Levites touching their charges.

Deuteronomy 25 : 13 - You shall not have in your bag divers weights, a great and a small. You shall not have in your house divers measures, a great and a small. But you shall have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure shall you have: that your days may be lengthened in the land which the LORD your God gives you. For all that do such things, and all that do unrighteously, are an abomination to the LORD your God. Remember what Amalek did to you by the way, when you were come forth out of Egypt; How he met you by the way, and smote the hindmost of you, even all that were feeble behind you, when you were faint and weary; and he feared not God. Therefore it shall be, when the LORD your God has given you rest from all your enemies round about, in the land which the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance to possess it, that you shall blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; you shall not forget it.

1 Samuel 18 : 5 - And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and it was good in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul's servants.

1 Samuel 18 : 14 - And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and Jehovah was with him.
And when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he stood in awe of him. But all Israel and Judah loved David; for he went out and came in before them.

1 Kings 5 : 13 - And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men. And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses; a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home; and Adoniram was over the men subject to taskwork. And Solomon had threescore and ten thousand that bore burdens, and fourscore thousand that were hewers in the mountains; besides Solomon’s chief officers that were over the work, three thousand and three hundred, who bore rule over the people that wrought in the work. And the king commanded, and they hewed out great stones, costly stones, to lay the foundation of the house with wrought stone. And Solomon’s builders and Hiram’s builders and the Gebalites did fashion them, and prepared the timber and the stones to build the house.

1 Chronicles 4 : 12 - And Chelub the brother of Shuhah begot Mehir, who was the father of Eshton. And Eshton begot Beth-rapha, and Paseah, and Tehinnah the father of Ir-nahash. These are the men of Recah. And the sons of Kenaz: Othniel, and Seraiah. And the sons of Othniel: Hathath. And Meonothai begot Ophrah: and Seraiah begot Joab the father of Ge-harashim; for they were craftsmen. And the sons of Caleb the son of Jephunneh: Iru, Elah, and Naam; and the sons of Elah; and Kenaz. And the sons of Jehallelel: Ziph, and Ziphah, Tiria, and Asarel. And the sons of Ezrah: Jether, and Mered, and Epher, and Jalon; and she bore Miriam, and Shammai, and Ishbah the father of Eshtemoa. And his wife the Jewess bore Jered the father of Gedor, and Heber the father of Soco, and Jekuthiel the father of Zanoah. And these are the sons of Bithiah the daughter of Pharaoh, whom Mered took. And the sons of the wife of Hodiah, the sister of Naham, were the father of Keilah the Garmite, and Eshtemoa the Maacathite. And the sons of Shimon: Amnon, and Rinnah, Ben-hanan, and Tilon. And the sons of Ishi: Zoheth, and Ben-zoheth. The sons of Shelah the son of Judah: Er the father of Lecah, and Laadah the father of Mareshah, and the families of the house of them that wrought fine linen, of the house of Ashbea; and Jokim, and the men of Cozeba, and Joash, and Saraph, who had dominion in Moab, and Jashubilehem. And the records are ancient. ( 23 ) These were the potters, and the inhabitants of Netaim and Gederah: there they dwelt with the king for his work.

1 Chronicles 12 : 2 - Now these are they that came to David to Ziklag, while he yet kept himself close because of Saul the son of Kish; and they were among the mighty men, his helpers in war. They were armed with bows, and could use both the right hand and the left in slinging stones and in shooting arrows from the bow: they were of Saul’s brethren of Benjamin. The chief was Ahiezer; then Joash, the sons of Shemaah the Gibeathite, and Jeziel, and Pelet, the sons of Azmaveth, and Beracah, and Jehu the Anathothite, and Ishmaiah the Gibeonite, a mighty man among the thirty, and over the thirty, and Jeremiah, and Jahaziel, and Johanan, and Jozabad the Gederathite, Eluzai, and Jerimoth, and Bealiah, and Shemariah, and Shephatiah the Haruphite, Elkanah, and Isshiah, and Azarel, and Joezer, and Jashobeam, the Korahites, and Joelah, and Zebadiah, the sons of Jeroham of Gedor. And of the Gadites there separated themselves to David to the stronghold in the wilderness, mighty men of valor, men trained for war, that could handle shield and spear; whose faces were like the faces of lions, and they were as swift as the roes upon the mountains; Ezer the chief, Obadiah the second, Eliab the third, Johanan the eighth, Elzabad the ninth, Jeremiah the tenth, Machbannai the eleventh. These of the sons of Gad were captains of the host: he that was least was equal to a hundred, and the greatest to a thousand. These are they that went over the Jordan in the first month, when it had overflowed all its banks; and they put to flight all them of the valleys, both toward the east, and toward the west.

Ezra 3 : 7 - They gave money also to the masons, and to the carpenters; and food, and drink, and oil, unto them of Sidon, and to them of Tyre, to bring cedar-trees from Lebanon to the sea, to Joppa, according to the grant that they had of Cyrus king of Persia. Now in the second year of their coming to the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, began Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the rest of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all they that were come out of the captivity to Jerusalem, and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to have the oversight of the work of the house of Jehovah.

Job 28 : 1 - Surely there is a mine for silver, And a place for gold which they refine. Iron is taken out of the earth, And copper is molten out of the stone. Man sets an end to darkness, And searches out, to the furthest bound, The stones of obscurity and of thick darkness. He breaks open a shaft away from where men sojourn; They are forgotten of the foot; They hang afar from men, they swing to and fro. As for the earth, out of it comes bread; And underneath it is turned up as it were by fire. The stones thereof are the place of sapphires, And it has dust of gold. That path no bird of prey knows, Neither has the falcon’s eye seen it: The proud beasts have not trodden it, Nor has the fierce lion passed thereby. He puts forth his hand upon the flinty rock; He overturns the mountains by the roots. He cuts out channels among the rocks; And his eye sees every precious thing. He binds the streams that they trickle not; And the thing that is hid brings he forth to light.

Ezekiel  26 : 1 - And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the first day of the month, that the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Son of man, because that Tyrus has said against Jerusalem, Aha, she is broken that was the gates of the people: she is turned to me: I shall be replenished, now she is laid waste: Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against you, O Tyrus, and will cause many nations to come up against you, as the sea causes his waves to come up. And they shall destroy the walls of Tyrus, and break down her towers: I will also scrape her dust from her, and make her like the top of a rock. It shall be a place for the spreading of nets in the midst of the sea: for I have spoken it, says the Lord GOD: and it shall become a spoil to the nations. And her daughters which are in the field shall be slain by the sword; and they shall know that I am the LORD. For thus says the Lord GOD; Behold, I will bring upon Tyrus Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, a king of kings, from the north, with horses, and with chariots, and with horsemen, and companies, and much people. He shall slay with the sword your daughters in the field: and he shall make a fort against you, and cast a mount against you, and lift up the buckler against you. And he shall set engines of war against your walls, and with his axes he shall break down your towers. By reason of the abundance of his horses their dust shall cover you: your walls shall shake at the noise of the horsemen, and of the wheels, and of the chariots, when he shall enter into your gates, as men enter into a city wherein is made a breach. With the hoofs of his horses shall he tread down all your streets: he shall slay your people by the sword, and your strong garrisons shall go down to the ground. And they shall make a spoil of your riches, and make a prey of your merchandise: and they shall break down your walls, and destroy your pleasant houses: and they shall lay your stones and your timber and your dust in the midst of the water. And I will cause the noise of your songs to cease; and the sound of your harps shall be no more heard. And I will make you like the top of a rock: you shall be a place to spread nets upon; you shall be built no more: for I the LORD have spoken it, says the Lord GOD. Thus says the Lord GOD to Tyrus; Shall not the isles shake at the sound of your fall, when the wounded cry, when the slaughter is made in the midst of you? Then all the princes of the sea shall come down from their thrones, and lay away their robes, and put off their broidered garments: they shall clothe themselves with trembling; they shall sit upon the ground, and shall tremble at every moment, and be astonished at you. And they shall take up a lamentation for you, and say to you, How are you destroyed, that was inhabited of seafaring men, the renowned city, which was strong in the sea, she and her inhabitants, which cause their terror to be on all that haunt it! Now shall the isles tremble in the day of your fall; yes, the isles that are in the sea shall be troubled at your departure. For thus says the Lord GOD; When I shall make you a desolate city, like the cities that are not inhabited; when I shall bring up the deep upon you, and great waters shall cover you; When I shall bring you down with them that descend into the pit, with the people of old time, and shall set you in the low parts of the earth, in places desolate of old, with them that go down to the pit, that you be not inhabited; and I shall set glory in the land of the living; ( 21 ) I will make you a terror, and you shall be no more: though you be sought for, yet shall you never be found again, says the Lord GOD.

Daniel 2 : 47 - The king answered Daniel, and said, Of a truth your God is the God of gods, and the Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing you have been able to reveal this secret. Then the king made Daniel great, and gave him many great gifts, and made him to rule over the whole province of Babylon, and to be chief governor over all the wise men of Babylon. And Daniel requested of the king, and he appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, over the affairs of the province of Babylon: but Daniel was in the gate of the king.

Amos 8 : 4 - Hear this, O you that would swallow up the needy, and cause the poor of the land to fail, saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell grain? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and dealing falsely with balances of deceit; that we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes, and sell the refuse of the wheat? Jehovah has sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works. Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwells therein? yes, it shall rise up wholly like the River; and it shall be troubled and sink again, like the River of Egypt.

Nahum 3 : 16 - You have multiplied your merchants above the stars of heaven: the canker-worm ravages, and flees away. Your princes are as the locusts, and your marshals as the swarms of grasshoppers, which encamp in the hedges in the cold day, but when the sun arises they flee away, and their place is not known where they are. Your shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria; your nobles are at rest; your people are scattered upon the mountains, and there is none to gather them. There is no assuaging of your hurt: your wound is grievous: all that hear the report of you clap their hands over you; for upon whom has not your wickedness passed continually?

Zephaniah 1 : 11 - Wail, you inhabitants of Maktesh; for all the people of Canaan are undone; all they that were laden with silver are cut off. And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with lamps; and I will punish the men that are settled on their lees, that say in their heart, Jehovah will not do good, neither will he do evil. And their wealth shall become a spoil, and their houses a desolation: yes, they shall build houses, but shall not inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, but shall not drink the wine thereof.

Zechariah 9 : 1 -The burden of the word of Jehovah upon the land of Hadrach, and Damascus shall be its resting-place (for the eye of man and of all the tribes of Israel is toward Jehovah); and Hamath, also, which borders thereon; Tyre and Sidon, because they are very wise. And Tyre did build herself a stronghold, and heaped up silver as the dust, and fine gold as the mire of the streets. Behold, the Lord will dispossess her, and he will smite her power in the sea; and she shall be devoured with fire. Ashkelon shall see it, and fear; Gaza also, and shall be sore pained; and Ekron, for her expectation shall be put to shame; and the king shall perish from Gaza, and Ashkelon shall not be inhabited. And a bastard shall dwell in Ashdod, and I will cut off the pride of the Philistines. And I will take away his blood out of his mouth, and his abominations from between his teeth; and he also shall be a remnant for our God; and he shall be as a chieftain in Judah, and Ekron as a Jebusite. And I will encamp about my house against the army, that none pass through or return; and no oppressor shall pass through them any more: for now have I seen with mine eyes.

Good Work (New Testament)

Matthew 26 : 6 ( Mark 14 : 1 ) - Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, there came to him a woman having an alabaster cruse of exceeding precious ointment, and she poured it upon his head, as he sat at meat. But when the disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. But Jesus perceiving it said to them, Why trouble you the woman? for she has wrought a good work upon me. For you have the poor always with you; but me you have not always. For in that she poured this ointment upon my body, she did it to prepare me for burial. Verily I say to you, Whereever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, that also which this woman has done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.

Luke 16 : 1 - And he said also to the disciples, There was a certain rich man, who had a steward; and the same was accused to him that he was wasting his goods. And he called him, and said to him, What is this that I hear of you? render the account of your stewardship; for you can be no longer steward. And the steward said within himself, What shall I do, seeing that my lord takes away the stewardship from me? I have not strength to dig; to beg I am ashamed. I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses. And calling to him each one of his lord's debtors, he said to the first, How much owe you to my lord? And he said, A hundred measures of oil. And he said to him, Take your bond, and sit down quickly and write fifty. Then said he to another, And how much owe you? And he said, A hundred measures of wheat. He said to him, Take your bond, and write fourscore. And his lord commended the unrighteous steward because he had done wisely: for the sons of this world are for their own generation wiser than the sons of the light. And I say to you, Make to yourselves friends by means of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when it shall fail, they may receive you into the eternal tabernacles. He that is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much: and he that is unrighteous in a very little is unrighteous also in much. If therefore you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? And if you have not been faithful in that which is another's, who will give you that which is your own?

John 9 : 4 - We must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night comes, when no man can work. When I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

Acts 18 : 1 - After these things he departed from Athens, and came to Corinth. And he found a certain Jew named Aquila, a man of Pontus by race, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to depart from Rome: and he came to them; and because he was of the same trade, he abode with them, and they wrought, for by their trade they were tentmakers. And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded Jews and Greeks.

James 1 : 27 - Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.

Good Work (Old Testament)

Deuteronomy 8 : 5 - And you shall consider in your heart, that, as a man chastens his son, so Jehovah your God chastens you. And you shall keep the commandments of Jehovah your God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him. For Jehovah your God brings you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing forth in valleys and hills; a land of wheat and barley, and vines and fig-trees and pomegranates; a land of olive-trees and honey; a land wherein you shall eat bread without scarceness, you shall not lack anything in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you may dig copper

1 Chronicles 26 : 30 - Of the Hebronites, Hashabiah and his brethren, men of valor, a thousand and seven hundred, had the oversight of Israel beyond the Jordan westward, for all the business of Jehovah, and for the service of the king. Of the Hebronites was Jerijah the chief, even of the Hebronites, according to their generations by fathers’ houses. In the fortieth year of the reign of David they were sought for, and there were found among them mighty men of valor at Jazer of Gilead. And his brethren, men of valor, were two thousand and seven hundred, heads of fathers’ houses, whom king David made overseers over the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half-tribe of the Manassites, for every matter pertaining to God, and for the affairs of the king.

John 6 : 21 - They were willing therefore to receive him into the boat: and straightway the boat was at the land whither they were going. On the morrow the multitude that stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, save one, and that Jesus entered not with his disciples into the boat, but that his disciples went away alone (howbeit there came boats from Tiberias nigh to the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks): when the multitude therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they themselves got into the boats, and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus. And when they found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, Rabbi, when came you hither? Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say to you, You seek me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves, and were filled. Work not for the food which perishes, but for the food which abides to eternal life, which the Son of man shall give to you: for him the Father, even God, has sealed.

Hebrews 12 : 5 - You have not yet resisted to blood, striving against sin: and you have forgotten the exhortation which reasons with you as with sons, My son, regard not lightly the chastening of the Lord, Nor faint when you are reproved of him; For whom the Lord loves he chastens, And scourges every son whom he receives. It is for chastening that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father chastens not? But if you are without chastening, whereof all have been made partakers, then are you bastards, and not sons. Furthermore, we had the fathers of our flesh to chasten us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits, and live? For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed good to them; but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness. All chastening seems for the present to be not joyous but grievous; yet afterward it yields peaceable fruit to them that have been exercised thereby, even the fruit of righteousness.

1 Peter 2 : 18 - Servants, be in subjection to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. For this is acceptable, if for conscience toward God a man endures griefs, suffering wrongfully. For what glory is it, if, when you sin, and are buffeted for it, you shall take it patiently? but if, when you do well, and suffer for it, you shall take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. For hereto were you called: because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow his steps: who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered threatened not; but committed himself to him that judges righteously: who his own self bare our sins in his body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live to righteousness; by whose stripes you were healed.

Revelation 3 : 19 - I counsel you to buy of me gold refined by fire, that you may become rich; and white garments, that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness be not made manifest; and eyesalve to anoint your eyes, that you may see. As many as I love, I reprove and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

Discipline, Training (Old Testament)

Numbers 8 : 1 - And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, Speak to Aaron, and say to him, When you light the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light over against the candlestick. And Aaron did so; he lighted the lamps thereof over against the candlestick, as the LORD commanded Moses. And this work of the candlestick was of beaten gold, to the shaft thereof, to the flowers thereof, was beaten work: according to the pattern which the LORD had shewed Moses, so he made the candlestick.

1 Samuel 17 : 31 - And when the words were heard which David spoke, they rehearsed them before Saul; and he sent for him. And David said to Saul, Let no man’s heart fail because of him; your servant will go and fight with this Philistine. And Saul said to David, You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth. And David said to Saul, Your servant was keeping his father’s sheep; and when there came a lion, or a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock, I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth; and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him. Your servant smote both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God. And David said, Jehovah that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said to David, Go, and Jehovah shall be with you.

2 Chronicles 15 : 1 - And the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded: and he went out to meet Asa, and said to him, Hear you me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin: Jehovah is with you, while you are with him; and if you seek him, he will be found of you; but if you forsake him, he will forsake you. Now for a long season Israel was without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law: But when in their distress they turned to Jehovah, the God of Israel, and sought him, he was found of them. And in those times there was no peace to him that went out, nor to him that came in; but great vexations were upon all the inhabitants of the lands. And they were broken in pieces, nation against nation, and city against city; for God did vex them with all adversity. ( 7 ) But be you strong, and let not your hands be slack; for your work shall be rewarded.

Job 5 : 8 - But as for me, I would seek to God, And to God would I commit my cause; Who does great things and unsearchable, Marvellous things without number: Who gives rain upon the earth, And sends waters upon the fields; So that he sets up on high those that are low, And those that mourn are exalted to safety. He frustrates the devices of the crafty, So that their hands cannot perform their enterprise. He takes the wise in their own craftiness; And the counsel of the cunning is carried headlong. They meet with darkness in the day-time, And grope at noonday as in the night. But he saves from the sword of their mouth, Even the needy from the hand of the mighty. So the poor has hope, And iniquity stops her mouth. - Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects: Therefore despise not you the chastening of the Almighty. For he makes sore, and binds up; He wounds, and his hands make whole. But as for me, I would seek to God, And unto God would I commit my cause; For he makes sore, and binds up; He wounds, and his hands make whole. He will deliver you in six troubles; Yes, in seven there shall no evil touch you. In famine he will redeem you from death; And in war from the power of the sword. You shall be hid from the scourge of the tongue; Neither shall you be afraid of destruction when it comes. At destruction and dearth you shall laugh; Neither shall you be afraid of the beasts of the earth. For you shall be in league with the stones of the field; And the beasts of the field shall be at peace with you. And you shall know that your tent is in peace; And you shall visit your fold, and shall miss nothing. You shall know also that your seed shall be great, And your offspring as the grass of the earth. You shall come to your grave in a full age, Like as a shock of grain comes in in its season. Lo this, we have searched it, so it is; Hear it, and know you it for your good.

Psalm 11 : 5 - Jehovah tries the righteous; But the wicked and him that loves violence his soul hates. Upon the wicked he will rain snares; Fire and brimstone and burning wind shall be the portion of their cup. For Jehovah is righteous; He loves righteousness: The upright shall behold his face.

Psalm 94 : 12 - Let the field exult, and all that is therein; Then shall all the trees of the wood sing for joy Before Jehovah; For he comes, For he comes to judge the earth: He will judge the world with righteousness, And the peoples with his truth.

Psalm 141 : 5 - Let the righteous smite me, it shall be a kindness; And let him reprove me, it shall be as oil upon the head; Let not my head refuse it: For even in their wickedness shall my prayer continue.

Psalm 144 : 1 - Blessed be Jehovah my rock, Who teaches my hands to war, And my fingers to fight: My lovingkindness, and my fortress, My high tower, and my deliverer; My shield, and he in whom I take refuge; Who subdues my people under me.

Proverbs 3 : 11 - My son, despise not the chastening of Jehovah; Neither be weary of his reproof: For whom Jehovah loves he reproves; Even as a father the son in whom he delights. Happy is the man that finds wisdom, And the man that gets understanding. For the gaining of it is better than the gaining of silver, And the profit thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies: And none of the things you can desire are to be compared to her. Length of days is in her right hand; In her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, And all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: And happy is every one that retains her.

Proverbs 4 : 10 - Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; And the years of your life shall be many.
I have taught you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in paths of uprightness. When you go, your steps shall not be straitened; And if you run, you shall not stumble. Take fast hold of instruction; Let her not go: Keep her; For she is your life. Enter not into the path of the wicked, And walk not in the way of evil men. Avoid it, pass not by it; Turn from it, and pass on. For they sleep not, except they do evil; And their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall. For they eat the bread of wickedness, And drink the wine of violence.

Proverbs 6 : 23 - My son, keep the commandment of your father, And forsake not the law of your mother: Bind them continually upon your heart; Tie them about your neck.
When you walk, it shall lead you; When you sleep, it shall watch over you; And when you awake, it shall talk with you. For the commandment is a lamp; And the law is light; And reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

Proverbs 10 : 4 - He becomes poor that works with a slack hand; But the hand of the diligent makes rich. He that gathers in summer is a wise son; But he that sleeps in harvest is a son that causes shame.

Proverbs 10 : 8 - The wise in heart will receive commandments; But a prating fool shall fall.
He that walks uprightly walks surely; But he that perverts his ways shall be known.
He that winks with the eye causes sorrow; But a prating fool shall fall.

Proverbs 12 : 1 - Whoso loves correction loves knowledge; But he that hates reproof is brutish. A good man shall obtain favor of Jehovah; But a man of wicked devices will he condemn.

Proverbs 13 : 18 - Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuses correction; But he that regards reproof shall be honored. The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul; But it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil. Walk with wise men, and you shall be wise; But the companion of fools shall smart for it. Evil pursues sinners; But the righteous shall be recompensed with good.

Proverbs 14 : 4 - Where no oxen are, the crib is clean; But much increase is by the strength of the ox.

Proverbs 16 : 20 - He that gives heed to the word shall find good; And whoso trusts in Jehovah, happy is he. The wise in heart shall be called prudent; And the sweetness of the lips increases learning. Understanding is a well-spring of life to him that has it; But the correction of fools is their folly. The heart of the wise instructs his mouth, And adds learning to his lips. Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, Sweet to the soul, and health to the bones. There is a way which seems right to a man, But the end thereof are the ways of death. The appetite of the laboring man labors for him; For his mouth urges him thereto ( 26 ).

Proverbs 20 : 14 - It is bad, it is bad, says the buyer; But when he is gone his way, then he boasts. There is gold, and abundance of rubies; But the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.
Take his garment that is surety for a stranger; And hold him in pledge that is surety for foreigners.
Proverbs 27 : 23 - Be diligent to know the state of your flocks, And look well to your herds: For riches are not for ever: And does the crown endure to all generations? The hay is carried, and the tender grass shows itself, And the herbs of the mountains are gathered in. The lambs are for your clothing, And the goats are the price of the field; And there will be goats' milk enough for your food, for the food of your household, And maintenance for your maidens.

Proverbs 27 : 22 - Though you should bray a fool in a mortar with a pestle along with bruised grain, Yet will not his foolishness depart from him. Be you diligent to know the state of your flocks, And look well to your herds: For riches are not for ever: And does the crown endure to all generations?

Proverbs 27 : 23 - Be you diligent to know the state of your flocks, and look well to your herds. For riches are not for ever: and does the crown endure to every generation? The hay appears, and the tender grass shews itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered. The lambs are for your clothing, and the goats are the price of the field. And you shall have goats’ milk enough for your food, for the food of your household, and for the maintenance for your maidens.

Proverbs 29 : 19 - A servant will not be corrected by words; For though he understand, he will not give heed. See you a man that is hasty in his words? There is more hope of a fool than of him. He that delicately brings up his servant from a child Shall have him become a son at the last.

Proverbs 30 : 10 - Slander not a servant to his master, Lest he curse you, and you be held guilty.

Ecclesiastes 2 : 17 - So I hated life, because the work that is wrought under the sun was grievous to me; for all is vanity and a striving after wind. And I hated all my labor wherein I labored under the sun, seeing that I must leave it to the man that shall be after me. And who knows whether he will be a wise man or a fool? yet will he have rule over all my labor wherein I have labored, and wherein I have showed myself wise under the sun. This also is vanity. Therefore I turned about to cause my heart to despair concerning all the labor wherein I had labored under the sun. For there is a man whose labor is with wisdom, and with knowledge, and with skilfulness; yet to a man that has not labored therein shall he leave it for his portion. This also is vanity and a great evil. For what has a man of all his labor, and of the striving of his heart, wherein he labors under the sun? For all his days are but sorrows, and his travail is grief; yes, even in the night his heart takes no rest. This also is vanity. There is nothing better for a man than that he should eat and drink, and make his soul enjoy good in his labor. This also I saw, that it is from the hand of God. For who can eat, or who can have enjoyment, more than I? For to the man that pleases him God gives wisdom, and knowledge, and joy; but to the sinner he gives travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that pleases God. This also is vanity and a striving after wind.

Ecclesiastes 3 : 12 - I know that there is nothing better for them, than to rejoice, and to do good so long as they live. And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy good in all his labor, is the gift of God.

Ecclesiastes 9 : 10 - Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of your life of vanity, which he has given you under the sun, all your days of vanity: for that is your portion in life, and in your labor wherein you labort under the sun. Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in Sheol, whither you go.

Ecclesiastes 10 : 16 - Woe to you, O land, when your king is a child, and your princes eat in the morning! Happy are you, O land, when your king is the son of nobles, and your princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness! By slothfulness the roof sinks in; and through idleness of the hands the house leaks.(18)

Jeremiah 18 : 5 - Then the word of Jehovah came to me, saying, O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? says Jehovah. Behold, as the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel. At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy it; if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do to them. And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it; if they do that which is evil in my sight, that they obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them.
